‘Below Deck’: Colin Macrae Says Producers Encouraged the Crew to Drink in Interviews – Which Got Him in Trouble on the Show

Colin Macrae said 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' producers encouraged the cast to drink during crew interviews to 'get more juice out of you.' Alex Radcliffe from 'Below Deck Mediterranean' admitted he blacked out after one of his crew interviews because he drank too much.

Colin Macrae from Below Deck Sailing Yacht revealed that crew interviews are often done with a few cocktails in hand and producers encourage the crew to drink. “I don’t know about you guys, but they encourage us to get pretty hammered during those interviews,” Macrae said on the Altered Reality podcast.

Macrae discussed his season on the podcast, hosted by Below Deck Mediterranean‘s Alex Radcliffe and Anastasia Surmava. Macrae added that he was fresh off of doing a crew interview, “10 beers in,” which was when he gossiped to Daisy Kelliher about how Gary King wanted to hook up with Sydney Zaruba to spite Alli Dore.

Radcliffe said he drank quite a bit during his crew interviews too. “They gave me a drink limit on my season,” Radcliffe remarked. “I blacked out. I had three bottles of wine and for my season, everyone else after that had no more than two drinks.” Radcliffe added, “I blacked out, got back to the boat. They had to stop filming because I couldn’t stand up.”

Macrae said he wasn’t as drunk as Radcliffe during one particular instance, but he was pretty drunk. “They encourage you to drink,” he said. “It loosens up your nerves and they get more juice out of you. So that particular morning, it was like our second to the last interview. They wanted the juice. So I went in there and I smashed like 10 beers. I was f—– up.”

“Then I went back to the boat, hammered drunk,” he recalled. “I was like walking past the laundry. And Daisy’s standing there doing some laundry. And it just slipped out of my mouth.” Macrae gossiped about what King told him the night before to Kelliher. She looked shocked and then later told Dore. A fight ensued later and Macrae felt like he was at fault for the entire brawl.

“As soon as I said it I was like …,” he remarked sounding regretful. “I said to her, ‘Don’t tell Alli!’ And she was like, smoke coming out of her ears, angry. I was like f—! What have I done? I said, ‘Hey, hey don’t tell Alli!’ And that f—— night she tells Alli and it kind of ruined our last dinner. I’m looking at them going, ‘Why are they f—— arguing on the last dinner?'”

Macrae said he couldn’t figure out why the crew was arguing during their last dinner. “And then it was because of what I f—— said,” he said. “I’m a big like bro code guy. I’m a big, you can tell me anything and I’ll keep it close.” Adding, “I’m that guy.” Radcliffe joked how 10 beers in, Macrae was ready to spill.

“It wasn’t a cameraman that caught me saying it,” he recalled. “It was just the one on the laundry on the ceiling. So I was hoping that no one caught it.”
