Marvel actors are sworn to secrecy for their movies. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has plenty of twists and surprise cameos that no one wants spoiled. However, everyone is still curious and has their theories, even other actors. One movie actor in The Power of the Dog says they tried to get some Doctor Strange 2 details from Benedict Cumberbatch, but he didn’t reveal anything.

While most people know Cumberbatch for his role as Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the British actor has put on plenty of fantastic performances. One of his most recent performances in The Power of the Dog earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 2022 Academy awards. He ended up losing to Will Smith for King Richard, but it was still a deserved nomination.

One of his co-stars was Kodi Smit-McPhee, who earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination. Smit-McPhee’s character had an interesting dynamic with Cumberbatch’s character in the Jane Campion-directed movie as the two formed a unique bond. However, this connection wasn’t enough to get Cumberbatch to spoil some Doctor Strange 2 secrets.

Smit-McPhee is also a Marvel alumnus as he portrayed Nightcrawler in X: Men Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. However, the Australian actor is not an official part of the MCU as he was a part of the Fox X-Men universe. Still, Smit-McPhee believed a return for Nightcrawler could have been possible.

In a February interview with Variety, Smit-McPhee was asked if he was involved in any way in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The actor shared a story where he asked Cumberbatch if he was involved at all to which Cumberbatch remained silent.

“Uh listen, I had this conversation with Benedict [laughs] on set [of The Power of the Dog]…when he was in full method acting as well, and I was like, ‘Listen, I know you’re the dude in the boots right now with the rope, but you need to tell me: am I in the contract moving forward?’ And that guy doesn’t let out a secret. Like, I was actually slightly insulted…he’s really protective of that stuff.”

For anyone who has seen the movie, Smit-McPhee is not in it, but you can’t fault him for being curious. Patrick Stewart did make a cameo as Charles Xavier, so anything could have happened. The X-Men will join the MCU at some point and Smit-McPhee could be a part of it.

Late-night talk show hosts and other media outlets always try their best to get a Marvel actor to slip up and say something they’re not supposed to, but it’s almost like an art form now. Most recently, Andrew Garfield had a lot of fun lying to the world about his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. He lied to many people including Tick, Tick…Boom! director Lin-Manuel Miranda and former co-star Emma Stone.

Cumberbatch has also been having fun lying and teasing people about what is in Doctor Strange 2. However, you can find out all the surprises for yourself as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now in theaters.
