Christian Birkenberger evicted in a 7-2 vote

After promising former King’s teammates safety, Derek Xiao became the Head of Household for Week 5. He knew he wanted to backdoor Christian Birkenberger but had to make smart nominations so someone he considered a threat would get evicted, as opposed to a pawn, if nominations stayed the same.

Therefore, Derek X. nominated Brinti D’Angelo and Sarah Beth Steagall, who he wouldn’t mind going home if his target won the Power of Veto.

However, the competition beast wasn’t picked for the competition, and Britni removed herself from the block, giving way to Derek X.’s master plan.

After tipping off the former King’s team, he followed through with the support of the house. A last-minute effort spearheaded by Tiffany Mitchell failed, and Christian went home by 7-2, with his previous teammates throwing their former captain a sympathy vote.

Kyland Young is the new Head of Household

Following his eviction, host Julie Chen Moonves announced the houseguests entered the jury phase and faced another twist. The High Rollers Room would open sometime this week and featured casino games where the houseguests could compete, using BB Bucks earned by viewers’ votes, for three “game-changing powers.”

They also had the option of holding on to their money for other abilities at other points in the competition. After Moonves revealed the new twists to the houseguests, they then faced off for the power of the HOH.

Kyland Young won, walking away with his second HOH win, in a knock-out style competition. According to conversations on the Live Feeds, the Cookout alliance was the final contestants competing.

Apparently, Kyland attempted to throw the HOH to Tiffany, who eliminated herself by answering the question incorrectly, and Azah Awasum felt slighted as she claims Kyland repeatedly picked her. Sarah Beth was the first to be knocked out, and she, including others such as Derek X., realized no one picked Xavier, noting he must have a comfortable position in the house.

Who are his targets?

Clearly not targeting any of the Cookout allies, Kyland’s options are Alyssa Lopez, Britni D’Angelo, Claire Rehfuss, Derek X., and his final two partner, Sarah Beth.

The new HOH acknowledged Derek X. might become a target as he and several others believe he might receive many BB Bucks from America. In a conversation with Derek F., he said he intended to go after Claire, claiming he would let everyone else decide who she sits next to on the block.

He also threw out nominating her pair, Tiffany, after warning her, as they have the votes to save her. If Claire comes off the block, Kyland said he might use the opportunity to take a shot at Sarah Beth.

The HOH later told Xavier he contemplated putting up Britni and Claire. Speaking to Tiffany, Kyland threw out Alyssa’s name as they thought her extensive social media following might give her BB Bucks. He has yet to make a decision. Big Brother 23 airs on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays on CBS.
