[SPOILER ALERT: Spoilers ahead for the second jury member and Big Brother 23 Week 8 Head of Household.]

After barely losing to Sarah Beth Steagall in the Head of Household competition last week and choosing not to play for safety, the biggest target left in the house, Derek Xiao, found himself backdoored. Did his campaigns work, or did he become the second jury member? Additionally, who is the new Head of Household?

Sarah Beth Steagall nominated Derek Frazier and Claire Rehfuss

Following Britni D’Angelo’s eviction, Sarah Beth Steagall, the Cookout’s next target, became Head of Household. Worried about the High Rollers Room twist, she wanted to nominate people that would force them, or others, to spend their BB Bucks and flesh out the Chopping Block Roulette power, which allowed the winner to save a nominee and spin a wheel that randomly nominated someone else.

Additionally, she wanted to leave her options open for a backdoor. With the advice of number one ally Kyland Young, she put up his same nominations from last week, Claire Rehfuss and Derek “Big D” Frazier.

Wanting to change her position in the game, Alyssa Lopez played, the only one to do so, and saved Big D, but her closest ally, Xavier Prather, went up in his spot.

Derek Xiao was backdoored and evicted in a 5-2 vote

For the Power of Veto competition, the houseguests had to set up dominos, including some with punishments or rewards, and knock them over in the fastest time to win.

Although Azah Awasum, Alyssa, and Sarah Beth tried, with Big D going strictly for the prizes, Xavier pulled out the win, saving himself, but also had to accept a day of solitary confinement, lose all his BB Bucks, and become a third nominee for a week.

Sarah Beth stuck to her plan and backdoored Derek X. Even though Cookout allies Azah, Tiffany Mitchell, and Hannah Chaddha wanted to keep him as they have good personal relationships with him, the guys were adamant he leave that week, perceiving him as the biggest threat left.

He still attempted to campaign and made convincing arguments. However, the Cookout already made up their mind, and Derek X. was evicted in a 5-2 vote.

Tiffany Mitchell is the Week 8 Head of Household

Before the day of evictions, the houseguests were shown various clips of their time in the house to memorize. For the upcoming HOH, they faced off by answering true or false questions about the videos.

It came down to Tiffany, Alyssa, and Hannah, with Tiffany becoming the next HOH. After competing, all the houseguests had to pick up envelopes that contained $50-100 BB Bucks that they couldn’t open until later in the High Rollers Room.

Although Tiffany is HOH, the winner of the final available power, the Coin of the Destiny, could overthrow her nominations with their own. Currently, Big D is the only houseguest who has enough money to compete for it.

However, the amount of BB Bucks in the envelopes coupled with America’s vote could make others eligible. Big Brother 23 airs Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 8/7 Central on CBS.
