NME was the first to report IMDB’s listing. Most fans won’t want to be spoiled before they get to see Face the Music on Aug. 28, and Showbiz Cheat Sheet has interviews with Reeves, Winter and the filmmakers for the week it opens. If you already stumbled on the spoiler, don’t worry. They still haven’t spoiled what he does in the movie, but perhaps you’ll want to read about these other rock n’ roll cameos in the previous movies.

This famous Go-Go played Joan of Arc in ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’

In Excellent Adventure, high school seniors Bill (Winter) and Ted (Reeves) use a time machine telephone booth from the future to pass their history exam. They were supposed to just study history firsthand, but they ended up bringing historical figures back to the present to help with their oral report.

The teen rockers went all the way back to ancient Greece to pick up Socrates, so the 1400s were hardly their earliest era. There, they picked up Joan of Arc (Jane Wiedlin). It was her fourth role after cameos in Clue, Star Trek IV and a live-action Sleeping Beauty musical.

Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter met this trio of rock stars

In Excellent Adventure, Rufus (George Carlin) comes from the future to help Bill and Ted out. During their time travel trip, Bill and Ted visit the future and meet The Three Most Important People in the world. These are Clarence Clemons, Martha Davis and Fee Waybill.

Clemons was the saxophonist for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. Davis was the lead singer of The Motels and had a solo career. Waybill was the lead singer and songwriter of The Tubes, and also worked with Toto, Richard Marx and Billy Sherwood.

The first rock star cameo as himself was in ‘Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey’

After Excellent Adventure, Bill and Ted became sort of rock n’ roll heroes. The film certainly advocated for the power of music, since the premise is that their band, Wyld Stallyns would create the music that unites the universe. When they made the first sequel, Jim Martin played himself.

The Faith No More guitarist is in the future giving a guest music lesson to students when De Nomolos (Joss Ackland) hijacks the phone booth for his evil plan to stop Bill and Ted. Martin, obviously, doesn’t approve but Bill and Ted manage to save themselves. Bluesman Taj Mahal also appears in the sequel and Primus competees with Wyld Stallyns in the Battle of the Bands!

The ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’ spoiler

Okay, so you’ve made it this far. IMDB already blew it, but hopefully this is buried deep enough in the story that nobody who didn’t want to know has read this far.

Dave Grohl has a cameo in Bill & Ted Face the Music. He plays Dave Grohl. That makes sense for a 2020 Bill & Ted movie. He’s had a legendary career since the first Bill & Ted movies, with Nirvana and then starting Foo Fighters. Grohl is also cameo-friendly, having played with The Moopets in the Muppet movies.
