Bosch starred Titus Welliver as gruff and principled LAPD detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch. It premiered in 2014 and lasted for seven seasons, making it Prime Video’s longest-running original series.

Bosch came to an end in June 2021 with a series-ending episode that saw Bosch quitting his job as a detective after becoming disgusted with the department’s endemic corruption. But fans knew they wouldn’t be saying goodbye to the character for good and that a previously announced spinoff series was in the works for IMDb TV, Amazon’s free streaming service.

The spinoff’s title – Bosch: Legacy – was revealed later that year. Now, fans also have a premiere date. The new series drops May 6, according to a just-released trailer.

Harry Bosch is now a private detective in the first ‘Bosch’ spinoff trailer

Bosch’s next move after cutting ties with the LAPD is no secret. The Bosch series finale ended with him applying for his private investigator’s license. Meanwhile, his daughter Maddie (Madison Lintz) made a career switch of her own, abandoning her dreams of becoming a lawyer to pursue a career in law enforcement, just like her father and late mother.

The first Bosch: Legacy trailer shows both characters in their new roles.

“He works private cases now,” Maddie tells someone in the clip. “Fewer compromises, he says.”

But avoiding complications isn’t in Bosch’s DNA. High-powered lawyer Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers) tries to recruit him to serve as an expert witness in one of her cases. Bosch balks.

“I don’t work for defense attorneys,” he says.

“Even in pursuit of the truth?” she asks.

The new series is based on ‘The Wrong Side of Goodbye’

How ‘Bosch’ Spinoff Will Differ From the Original Series

Bosch is based on a series of books by Michael Connelly, and Bosch: Legacy will continue to use his novels as inspiration. The show’s first season will be based on The Wrong Side of Goodbye.

In his first job as a PI, Bosch is hired by William Vance, an aging billionaire who is trying to find his only heir. But as Bosch dives into the case, he finds himself at odds with powerful figures who would prefer Vance’s heir never be found. He also discovers shocking secrets going back generations. At the same time, he connects with a new character, Maurice “Mo” Bassi (Stephen A. Chang), a gadget whiz who also shares Bosch’s affinity for jazz and justice.

As Bosch tries to get to the bottom of the Vance mystery, Maddie is finding her feet as a rookie police officer. She’s paired with no-nonsense training officer Reina Vasquez (Denise S. Sanchez). As Maddie works the streets of East Hollywood, she must decide what she wants her career to look like.

“You have to decide what kind of cop you want to be,” her dad tells her in the trailer. “It’s either a mission or it’s just a job.”
