There’s a new tell-all about ‘Housewives’ secrets

In Brian Moylan’s new book The Housewives: The Real Story Behind The Real Housewives, he takes a deep unauthorized dive into the Bravo hit franchise to try and discover how the shows became such a staple.

Moylan is not new to writing tell-alls, whether authorized or not. He co-wrote RHOBH star Erika Jayne’s memoir. He also recaps the series online as founder and president of an online fanclub of sorts.

The new book is filled with behind-the-scenes secrets from production crew members, casting executives, and friends of cast members.

As for why Moylan opted to write the book, Entertainment Tonight reports him gushing about his love of the network and the popular shows. “I love Bravo,” he notes. “I think they do an amazing job. They deliver us a great product. Whatever they’re doing seems to work…but I do want fans to have a realistic picture of how these shows are made and what they’re like. I don’t think that that damages anyone’s enjoyment of the shows at all. If anything, it probably heightens it.”

Bravo casting reportedly has a complete list of people they’d never cast on ‘Housewives’

According to the new book, casting is arduous for each franchise every season. There are up to 50 potential housewives who are interviewed at various stages. The best of the best are granted a house tour with production invited to their home for a full day to determine whether or not they are a good fit for the show. This final stage makes or breaks who makes it.

“This is where a lot of women fail,” one casting producer claims in the book. “Like a lot of women get to the last stage and then just completely s**t the bed.”

The selection process is extensive. It’s usually a mix of women the current cast recommends and women whom casting producers find through their own research and connections. But there’s also allegedly a long list of women casting will never hire.

“Most of those women that [fans] want on Housewives have been interviewed and/or approached, and either Bravo doesn’t want them because they’re a mess, or they don’t want to do it for whatever reason,” one source alleges. “There’s a huge list of everyone they’ve talked to, that’s pretty much like every woman in Beverly Hills and Orange County. I mean, the extent that we go to find new people is crazy ’cause everyone’s been approached.”

Two noticeable faces on the no-hire list are said to be Heather Locklear and Nicollette Sheridan. Fans campaigned for Sheridan to be cast for RHOBH due to her being the ex-wife of both Lisa Rinna’s husband, Harry Hamlin, and now former housewife Denise Richards’ husband, Aaron Phypers.
