Ever since Shonda Rhimes’ new show, Bridgerton, debuted on Netflix, people can’t stop talking about it or the infamous sex scenes. Though the show is set during the Regency era, the show is anything but stiff. Instead, Rhimes brings mystery, whimsy, romance, fun, and sexiness to a traditionally stuffy genre.

One thing that Bridgerton certainly doesn’t shy away from is sex scenes. Every episode features characters having sex, fantasizing about sex, or learning about it in detail for the first time. In particular, the sex scenes between Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Bassett, Duke of Hastings, have sparked no shortage of conversations. Fans of the show have remarked on the chemistry between Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page who play Daphne and Simon respectively. But how were the actors able to create such intense chemistry for the steamy sex scenes?

‘Bridgerton’ Star Regé-Jean Page talks chemistry with his castmate

Funnily enough, Page has shared that the chemistry doesn’t need to be helped. Instead, the Bridgerton star says actors need only to get out of the way of what naturally exists. “I think it’s less about building chemistry as much as getting out of its way,” Page shared in an interview with Who What Wear. “It’s already there on the page. It’s already there in the books. That’s why they are so popular. Our job is just to channel that and get out of its way.”

Page also shared that something that helped both the Bridgerton cast and characters develop chemistry was actually through dance. “Dance rehearsals were huge for that because dance is such a huge way that people express themselves, particularly in this period when everything is so repressed,” the For The People alum stated. “The only place that you get to directly interact with people are sanctioned, and the only place you get this sanctioned time to flirt and say all the things that you can’t say out loud is in the dances.”

Why Page doesn’t think the sex scenes are the most intimate part of the Netflix show

In fact, Page revealed that the dance scenes were even more intimate than filming the infamous sex scenes. He shared that the dancing rehearsals allowed him and Dynevor to get more comfortable with each other prior to filming so that when they actually began shooting, they’d developed a bit of a deeper connection.

“So we spent a lot of time going around to each other’s places and messing with dance stuff because that I think is the most intimate part,” the Bridgerton star shared. “Even though it’s a very sexy show, the most intimate scenes, I think, are very much when they are dancing together. So we spent a lot of time with that and that naturally brought us a little closer.”

It certainly is interesting that Page deems the dance scenes to be the most intimate scenes in the show. But, either way, we’re sure fans are hoping to see more dancing and more steamy sex scenes in Season 2 of Bridgerton.
