While Anthony has been getting all the buzz as the main character of Bridgerton season 2, the new Bridgerton trailer teaser may have given fans a hint at the middle Bridgerton brother, Benedict’s story as well. Created by Chris Van Dusen and adapted from the hit romance book series by Julia Quinn, Bridgerton season 1 smashed Netflix records when it debuted in December of 2020, becoming the streamer’s most-watched series with over 82 million viewers. The second, highly-anticipated installment of the steamy series arrived on Netflix on March 25, 2022.

Who is Benedict Bridgerton?

Bridgerton season 1 saw Benedict (Luke Thompson) floundering for identity. The middle brother of the esteemed Bridgerton clan, Benedict is neither the leader of the family like older brother Anthony (Jonathon Bailey) nor the carefree younger brothers Colin and Gregory. After being invited into the inner circle of artist Henry Granville (Julian Ovenden) Benedict finds himself in the midst of a scandalous party, where he meets the modiste Genevieve Delacroix (Katheryn Drysdale) and the two begin what looks to be a promising relationship. The Bridgerton season 2 trailer teaser (available at Express), however, shows no signs of the pair.

Who is the mysterious woman with Benedict in the Bridgerton season 2 trailer and what does it mean for his story?

Benedict Bridgerton’s story will not unfold until Bridgerton season 3, which means that season 2 will likely see him continue on his journey of self-discovery—from the looks of it, from the bedsheets of a pretty new lover. However, looking toward the horizon, Bridgerton season 3 will be based on Quinn’s third novel, An Offer From a Gentleman, which will finally bring Benedict center stage as he joins the rest of his siblings in their pursuit of love.

The description on Google Books for Quinn’s Cinderella-esque An Offer From a Gentleman eludes to a mysterious woman, Sophie Beckett, that steals Benedict’s attention at a glamorous ball before returning to her role as housemaid: “He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her.”

While the woman in the Bridgerton season 2 trailer teaser could be just one of the many exploits Benedict may encounter while he waits for his story to truly begin in Bridgerton season 3, it could also be that the scene from the trailer is one from the end of Bridgerton season 2 and will act as a hook for the series’ third season. If that is the case, the mysterious woman seen with Benedict could be the mysterious woman: Sophie Beckett.

After season 1 saw Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) finally marry Simon (played by Regé-Jean Page, who will be notably absent from the series’ new installment), Bridgerton season 2 will focus on her older brother, Anthony. As head of the family, Anthony feels the weight of responsibility and spent season 1 desperately in love with one he could not have, the beautiful opera singer, Siena. Now, in the adaptation of Quinn’s second novel in the Bridgerton series, The Viscount Who Loved Me, the rather rakish Anthony sets his sights on the youngest Sharma sister, Edwina, only to find his match in Edwina’s older sister, Kate (Simone Ashley).
