Why did Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor name their baby Cruz?

After many years of rumors of their on-and-off-again relationship, Cartwright and Taylor finally wed in 2019. The couple tied the knot at a wedding in Cartwright’s hometown of Kentucky that was televised on Vanderpump Rules. Although there have been rumors of a split between the two, the reality is that they are still together and just welcomed their first baby.

Shortly after the birth of their son, they gave an interview talking about what inspired them to name their baby Cruz.

“I was probably around five months pregnant when we finally decided on Cruz. Cruz means ‘cross,’ and coming from a religious family I thought that was amazing. I also, of course, think it’s super cute and goes with Cauchi so perfectly,” Cartwright told E! News.

Cauchi is Taylor’s real last name and thus his late father’s last name as well, which was a way of honoring him. Cruz’s middle name is Michael, just like his dad.

“Michael is Jax’s middle name and his uncle/godfather’s name. As an added plus, Michael has always been my mom’s favorite boy’s name ever so she was so excited,” Cartwright mentioned.

All the Cruz’s in the Bravo world

After Cartwright and Taylor’s name was revealed, Bravo fans noticed that there were a lot of Cruz’s on the shows on the cable network. From The Real Housewives of Dallas, both Stephanie Hollman and Kameron Westcott have sons named Cruz. Over on The Real Housewives of Potomac, Wendy Osefo has a son named Cruz as well as The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Teddi Mellencamp.

A graphic was made with all the Cruz’s and their mothers were made and Cartwright took notice and made a comment that she ended up deleting.

“Lol I don’t even watch bravo but I understand because it is such a cute name,” Cartwright wrote, which Instagram blog Comments by Bravo shared.

Brittany Cartwright claps back

Following the comment, Cartwright started receiving hateful messages from fans calling her a liar. Fans couldn’t believe that she didn’t watch Bravo as she was a star on one of their most popular reality shows.

“You guys are so insane,” she replied in a now-deleted message. “I deleted the comment because I am not dealing with any negativity when I just had a beautiful baby. But I will say if you truly watched me over the years, I said it numerous times, I didn’t watch any reality TV, not even The Bachelor. That’s why I didn’t know Jax when I met him.

“I mean no harm by that or rudeness,” she continued. “Reality TV has just always made me anxious to watch. I told Stassi [Schroeder] about my name and she told me about Teddi. And I don’t care, I love the name. It’s so cute, so I see why other people have it.”

Fans hoping to see Cartwright and Taylor with their baby on Vanderpump Rules will be disappointed. The couple announced their departure from the series after 8 seasons. Bravo has not confirmed when they will start shooting season 9.
