Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak first met in 2017. .Paak was the opening act on the European leg of Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour. They quickly became friends — and soon, collaborators.

In early 2021, Mars announced that the two created an album together under the new moniker Silk Sonic. Their debut album, An Evening With Silk Sonic, was released in November 2021 and featured narration by music great Bootsy Collins.

An Evening With Silk Sonic is an ode to the past rooted in the present. The project explored sounds from R&B and soul to pop and funk. The lead single “Leave the Door Open” earned them four nominations at the 2022 Grammy Awards.

Silk Sonic has a new Las Vegas residency

Now, Silk Sonic is expanding on their legacy with a brand new Las Vegas residency show.

“It’s happening! The sexiest party of the year!” Mars said in a tweet announcing the residency. “Them Silk Sonic Boyz are performing Live in Las Vegas!” The run currently includes 13 dates at the Park MGM theater. Attendees of the shows are required to abide by the standards to reduce exposure to COVID-19, which requires masks be worn by all attendees, and will likely have to submit proof of full vaccination, proof of a negative COVID test, or take a rapid test on-site.

“THE TERMS ARE LOCKED AND VEGAS MIGHT NOT EVER BE THE SAME JACK!! YOU’RE INVITED TO THE HOTTEST SHOW IN SIN CITY!” .Paak added in an Instagram post. The show is named after their debut album: An Evening With Silk Sonic.

The limited run kicks off in late February 2022 and runs through early April. So far, the confirmed dates are February 25 and 26, March 2, 4, 5, 16, 18, 19, 23, 25, 26, 31, and April 2.

Silk Sonic was a smash success in 2021

Mars and .Paak are respected artists in their own right, so it’s no surprise that An Evening With Silk Sonic resonated with so many people. Their debut single “Leave the Door Open” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while “Smokin’ Out the Window” reached No. 5.

The album itself debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. And “Leave the Door Open” not only topped the Hot 100, but the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart as well, sitting atop the list for eight weeks between April and July 2021.

Like many other songs, “Smokin’ Out the Window” received a boost on social media after it went viral on TikTok.
