The 2022 Grammy Awards were originally broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+ on April 3. The award show featured performances by Silk Sonic, Olivia Rodrigo, J Balvin, BTS, Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow, Billie Eilish, Jon Batiste, and more.

BTS performed their song “Butter” toward the beginning of the award show. The performance marked their first time performing an in-person solo stage at the Grammy Awards.

On April 17, the Recording Academy uploaded BTS’ performance to the official Recording Academy / GRAMMYs YouTube channel.

For their performance of “Butter” at the 2022 Grammy Awards, BTS incorporated a spy theme in a never-before-seen rendition of the song.

Because Jin is currently recovering from surgery, he opened the performance by sitting at a control panel. Jungkook then descended from the ceiling, echoing his “Euphoria” performance from the group’s BTS World Tour Love Yourself: Speak Yourself.

The camera then panned to the audience and showed Suga, J-Hope, RM, and Jimin sitting at different tables before focusing on V talking to Rodrigo.

Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, and V joined Jungkook on stage while Jin remained seated at the control panel. As a highlight of the performance, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook performed a new dance break that featured lasers and jacket choreography.

To close out the song, Jin joined Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook and performed the final part of the choreography with the members.

What the BTS members thought of their performance

After the 2022 Grammy Awards, the members of BTS held a VLIVE livestream to talk about the award show. In the VLIVE, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook shared their thoughts on their performance.

“We were really nervous too,” said V according to an English translation of the VLIVE.

J-Hope agreed, saying, “Everything was live. So we were even more nervous.”

Because Jin watched some of the performance from the control panel before joining the members onstage, he complimented Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.

“It was the first time for me to see the members dance like that on stage…,” Jin shared in the VLIVE. “But when I saw you do the dance break on stage, I could understand why people like BTS.”
