BTS: Jin Keeps Chris Martin’s Guitar Beside a Giant ‘RJ Figure’
Jin of BTS is a huge fan of Coldplay’s Chris Martin. After the two bands collaborated on the song “My Universe,” Martin gifted Jin with a guitar. During an interview with GQ Magazine, Jin shared where he keeps the guitar in his house.

Jin loves his BT21 character, an alpaca named RJ, and the singer famously takes RJ stuffed animals with him when he travels. In his interview with GQ Magazine, Jin revealed he keeps Martin’s guitar next to an “RJ figure.”
Jin told the magazine:
“I keep my prized possessions in the front entrance of my house. When you open the door, there’s a huge ‘RJ’ figure [created in collaboration with LINE company] that’s about 2 meters tall. Beside it is the guitar. [laughs] I actually asked Chris where I should keep it. He said next to RJ would be best, so I didn’t have to agonise over where to put it.”
Why Chris Martin gave Jin his guitar
Coldplay released “My Universe” with BTS on Sept. 24, 2021. After the single dropped, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook met with Coldplay while visiting the US.
Speaking with GQ Magazine, Jin went into detail about what it was like to have Martin give him a guitar.
“I was so happy,” Jin told the magazine. “After our collaboration, we had a chance to see him again in the US. When just the two of us were in the studio, I said to him, ‘Hey, your guitar’s cool.’ I mean, I’m such a big fan. Honestly, everything about him is cool. But he suddenly handed the guitar over, saying it was a gift.”
The BTS singer continued, “I hadn’t been implying anything with my comment. Even in my dazed state, I was so excited I didn’t know how to respond.”
To this day, Jin still does not know why Martin chose to give the guitar to him.
“I asked him multiple times if he was serious, because I just couldn’t believe it. I was so grateful. I heard later on that he knew I was a fan. Maybe that’s why he gave it to me? This is all an assumption, of course,” Jin told GQ Magazine.

For Jin, working on “My Universe” with Colplay was a dream collaboration because he is such “a big fan of” Martin.
“I’m a big fan of Chris Martin. Thinking back even now, it was truly incredible to be able to collaborate with Coldplay. It was such a precious time for me. I really like ‘Viva la Vida’ and ‘Fix You,’ and we were able to cover ‘Fix You’ recently! That made me especially happy,” Jin shared.
He continued, “They encouraged us to share our opinions all throughout the writing process. Even when Chris came to Korea to record the track, even when he was producing it, he constantly asked us if there was anything we wanted to try.”
