From hanging out in New York City to performing at the American Music Awards, Coldplay and BTS share a pretty special relationship. The oldest BTS member, named Jin, even received a guitar from Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin.

Here’s what “Worldwide Handsome” Jin said about the unforgettable moment.

Aside from their original music, BTS often collaborates with other artists. Megan Thee Stallion created an original verse for the “Butter” remix. BTS was even featured on Coldplay’s original song “My Universe” and its music video posted to YouTube.

Since its debut, the “My Universe” track has earned over 350 million Spotify plays. The bands collided for a live performance at the American Music Awards, sharing a behind-the-scenes video to BTS’ TikTok. Martin even appeared during one night of BTS’ Permission to Dance on Stage concerts at SoFi Stadium.

Chris Martin from Coldplay gave BTS’ Jin his guitar as a gift — ‘I didn’t know how to respond’

To create “My Universe,” Coldplay’s Martin traveled to South Korea, meeting Jin, J-Hope, Suga, RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook in person to record vocals. He called Jungkook “impressive,” and the other members of Coldplay described V as a “second Chris Martin.”

Working with Coldplay was a milestone for the K-pop group, with members like Jin often mentioning their support for Martin before the collaboration. What made their interaction even more special for Jin was that Martin gifted him his guitar.

“I was so happy,” Jin said during an interview with GQ Magazine. “After our collaboration, we had a chance to see him again in the US. When just the two of us were in the studio, I said to him, ‘Hey, your guitar’s cool.’ I mean, I’m such a big fan. Honestly, everything about him is cool.”

“But he suddenly handed the guitar over, saying it was a gift,” Jin continued. “I hadn’t been implying anything with my comment. Even in my dazed state, I was so excited I didn’t know how to respond.”

BTS supported and covered Coldplay even before their Music Of The Spheres feature. When they appeared in an MTV Unplugged segment, the K-pop group performed a live cover of Coldplay’s “Fix You.” The corresponding YouTube video earned over 35 million views.

This wouldn’t be the only present given to the BTS idols, as Halsey gifted the seven artists matching friendship bracelets in honor of their “Boy With Luv” collaboration. (They gifted the singer a jeweled microphone in return.)

Coldplay featured more than just BTS on Music Of The Spheres, as award-winning artists like Selena Gomez and Jacob Collier lent their talent to songs “Let Somebody Go” and “Human Heart,” respectively.
