BTS: Jungkook Was Worried ARMY Would ‘Make Fun’ of Him After His 2021 AMAs Speech
At the 2021 American Music Awards, BTS won every award they were nominated for and won Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop Song for “Butter,” and Favorite Pop Duo or Group. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook also performed “My Universe” with Coldplay and “Butter.”
On Feb. 1, Big Hit Music released a new BTS Episode on the BANGTANTV YouTube channel. The BTS Episode shows BTS during the 2021 AMAs. In the BTS Episode, Jungkook shared that he thought ARMY could “make fun” of him for his AMAs speech.
Jungkook talked about BTS’ ‘new chapter’ at the 2021 AMAs
At the 2021 AMAs, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook took turns speaking during their acceptance speeches. When BTS won Artist of the Year, it marked their first time winning the award.
“Thank you AMAs, and we’re truly honored to be on this stage with such amazing, tremendous artists right over here,” RM said in the band’s acceptance speech for Artist of the Year. “We’re so honored. Thanks for that.”
At the end of the speech, Jungkook teased that the band has exciting future plans on the horizon.
“We just wanted to make people happy with our music,” Jungkook said. “We believe that this award opens the beginning of our new chapter.”
The BTS singer continued, “In the past few years we learned that each and every moment is precious. So in 2022, we wanted… we want to focus on, we want to focus on…”
Jin then dragged Jungkook away from the microphone before he could finish his speech, and the two laughed while hugging.
Jungkook joked that ARMY might ‘make fun’ of him
After BTS won Artist of the Year, the members quickly changed into yellow outfits to perform “Butter.” While getting ready for the performance, Jungkook thought that ARMY could pick on him for his AMAs speech.
“Fans are going to tease me a ton,” Jungkook said. “ARMY are going to make fun again what do I do?”
“Just accept it and go home,” RM told him.
“I wanted to look cool,” Jungkook said. “Getting dragged off at the end…”
The members of BTS are working on a new album
While specific details about what BTS’ “new chapter” will be like are still unclear, it is known that the band will release a new album sometime in 2022.
In December 2021, Big Hit Music announced that Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook will take a short vacation. The announcement also revealed that the band will drop a “new album” as part of their next era.
“BTS will be focusing on preparing for the concert and release of the new album that will mark the beginning of a ‘new chapter,'” Big Hit Music wrote in the announcement. “They are preparing for a concert this coming March to connect and communicate with the fans in-person in Seoul.”
