On June 14, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook of BTS announced they will be shifting their focus to solo music projects. In the past, the seven artists have primarily focused on releasing music as a septet. In a new interview with Weverse Magazine, RM of BTS shared how he is spending his time and revealed that he wants “to find inspiration from people around the world.”
RM of BTS is looking for inspiration
On June 10, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook released an anthology album called Proof. Following the release of the album, Weverse Magazine released interviews with each BTS member.
Speaking with Weverse Magazine, RM shared that he is looking for inspiration, saying:
“This is a very important issue to me right now. I definitely had a grasp of what this group is back in the day, but now it seems like I hit this phase where it’s impossible for me to know what the group is like or even who I am that clearly. So I think I need to find inspiration from people around the world. I have this urgent desire inside me to be inspired by all the inspiration and influence in the world. What should BTS be saying to the world from now on? What position should BTS be remembered for taking at this point? How are we going to function moving forward? I want to get inspiration about these things from others.”
The rapper wants BTS to have ‘a message’
At the 2022 Grammy Awards, BTS earned a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and performed their single “Butter.” The performance earned acclaim, but RM told Weverse Magazine he wants more for BTS.
“It’s something I felt when I looked at artists like Lady Gaga or H.E.R. who devote their entire lives to their music: We need a message so we can be sure and assert our own image, too. I think the performance of ‘Butter’ we put on at the Grammy Awards astonished people. It was unique. I think it’s time for us to move beyond astonishing people and think again about what kind of messages we can send people now,” RM said.
RM is looking toward the future
Because the members of BTS are shifting toward solo music for now, the future is truly limitless for each member. Speaking with Weverse Magazine, RM shared what he is thinking about his next steps.
“I don’t think I’m going to change the whole style of the genre or anything, but I’m still eager to be the one and only. It’s a given when you’re an artist: You have to be the one and only. And I think I’m in a good position to become him. Because I’m a member of BTS. I guess I’m trying to find that unparalleled something while still doing what I like,” the BTS rapper said.
