BTS’ Single ‘Butter’ Is Officially the Song of the Summer

BTS released their second English-language single 'Butter' on May 21. A few months later on Aug. 27, the band released a remix of the song featuring Megan Thee Stallion. Due to the success of 'Butter' on the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard crowned the single as the Song of the Summer in 2021.

On May 21, BTS released their second English-language single “Butter.” The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent a total of 10 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the chart. BTS also collaborated with Grammy Award-winner Megan Thee Stallion on a remix of “Butter.” Due to the massive success of “Butter” on the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard crowned the BTS single as the top Song of the Summer in 2021.

Billboard named BTS’ song ‘Butter’ as the Song of the Summer

On Sept. 7, Billboard published a list of the 10 songs that performed the best on the Hot 100 during the past few months. BTS’ song “Butter” ranked first out of the 10 songs.

According to Billboard, the top songs from the summer of 2021 are:

  2. “good 4 u” by Olivia Rodrigo
  3. “Levitating” by Dua Lipa
  4. “Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat and SZA
  5. “Save Your Tears” by The Weeknd and Ariana Grande
  6. “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” by Lil Nas X
  7. “deja vu” by Olivia Rodrigo
  8. “Peaches” by Justin Bieber, Daniel Caesar, and Giveon
  9. “Leave The Door Open” by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak of Silk Sonic
  10. “Stay” by The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber

‘Butter’ spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100

In addition to announcing the Songs of the Summer 2021 list, Billboard also shared updated rankings for the Billboard Hot 100 on Sept. 7. For the 10th non-consecutive week, “Butter” reached the top spot on the chart. The rise of “Butter” on the Hot 100 occurred after BTS released a remix of the song featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

Billboard reports, “‘Butter,’ released on HYBE/BigHit Music/Columbia Records, drew 12.2 million radio airplay audience impressions (down 39%) and 10.7 million U.S. streams (up 110%) and sold 143,000 downloads (up 108%) in the week ending Sept. 2, according to MRC Data.”

The report continues, “‘Butter’ becomes the 40th single in the Hot 100’s 63-year history to spend 10 or more weeks at No. 1. It’s the first since Roddy Ricch’s ‘The Box’ logged 11 weeks on top in January-March 2020.”

BTS collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion on ‘Butter’

On Aug. 27, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook of BTS released a remix of “Butter” with Megan Thee Stallion. The song dropped at midnight EDT, and a visualizer of the remix was uploaded to the HYBE Labels YouTube channel. “Butter (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)” includes ad-libs and a new verse by Megan Thee Stallion.

According to a press release, “… the latest version adds more flavor with the rap verses from Megan Thee Stallion. The sometimes smooth and at times charismatic duality of BTS infused with Megan Thee Stallion’s powerful vocal delivery, ad-libbing and signature sound creates a unique soundscape for the listeners to enjoy.”

After “Butter” returned to No. 1 on the Hot 100, BTS’ official Twitter account with Big Hit Music showed gratitude for Megan Thee Stallion, calling the rapper, “amazing.”
