Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden have welcomed their first child into the world, but don’t expect to see any pictures of the new arrival on social media. The proud parents have decided to “protect our little one’s privacy,” they explained in a Jan. 3 Instagram post.

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden’s daughter is named Raddix

Madden, 40, and Diaz, 47, announced the birth of their daughter Raddix Madden on Jan. 3.

“We are so happy, blessed, and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter,” the couple said in a statement posted to their social media accounts. “She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family.”

The announcement came as a surprise to fans, who did not know the couple was expecting. Madden and Diaz have been married since January 2015, and though they are fairly private, there have been reports that they were eager to start a family.

“She has settled in, settled down, and wants to have a family,” a source speaking about Diaz told People in February 2016. “She is doing everything she can to enjoy this time in her life. She is feeling fulfilled and wants to be a mom.”

While The Sweetest Thing actress and the Good Charlotte guitarist sound thrilled to be parents, they have decided to keep the newest member of their family out of the spotlight.

“While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one’s privacy,” they said. “So we won’t be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact that she is really cute!! Some would even say RAD:).”

Keeping kids out of the spotlight is something of a tradition in Diaz and Madden’s extended family. Madden’s brother Joel is married to Nicole Richie. But you’ll rarely see their two kids, Harlow and Sparrow, on social media.

“They’re busy being kids,” the former star of The Simple Life said to People of her decision to not share much about their lives. Richie, the daughter of singer Lionel Richie, grew up in the spotlight, and presumably doesn’t want the same for her own children.

Madden and Diaz aren’t the only stars to take a low-key approach to announcing their baby news. Many celebs have had under-the-radar pregnancies and rarely (if ever) show their kids in public.

In August 2018, Rashida Jones gave birth to her first child with boyfriend Ezra Koenig of the band Vampire Weekend. But the couple didn’t make any announcement about the birth, which People confirmed via birth certificate.

Actors Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan also had a baby in 2018. However, they didn’t confirm that they’d become parents until months later. Eva Mendes has two daughters with Ryan Gosling. But the actress hid both her pregnancies and doesn’t share photos of her kids on social media, though they’re occasionally spotted by paparazzi. Drake has also kept his son Adonis out of the spotlight. He didn’t confirm he was a father until a year after the baby’s birth, when he released his album Scorpion.
