Something’s on the horizon at Capcom. On Feb. 14, the Japanese video game developer posted a mysterious “Capcom Countdown” page teasing some sort of announcement in one week. The page includes only a countdown clock on a black background, so there are no hints as to what the big reveal might be. However, many fans have speculated that it could be a Street Fighter 6 announcement or a few other projects allegedly in the works at Capcom. Here are some games that could potentially be announced when the countdown ends.

‘Street Fighter 6’

The most popular theory for the Capcom Countdown announcement is a Street Fighter 6 reveal. As Metro reported, Capcom previously teased that fans would hear updates about the newest Street Fighter installment in 2022. Plus, this year marks the 35th anniversary of the series, making it the perfect time to drop such big news.

The timing of the announcement is also important to this theory. Capcom’s countdown ends at 1 a.m. ET on Feb. 21, which is just after the conclusion of the Street Fighter Pro Tour. While that could be a coincidence, it has made fans suspicious of a Street Fighter 6 reveal.

‘Resident Evil 4’ Remake

Another possibility is the rumored Resident Evil 4 remake, which was leaked as part of a Capcom data breach in November 2020 (along with Street Fighter 6 and Monster Hunter 6). According to a recent Fanbyte report, sources revealed that the game would allegedly be announced in 2022. However, Capcom has not confirmed any Resident Evil 4 remake plans.

Many fans wonder if this is the big Capcom Countdown announcement because of one small detail: the font used in the countdown looks similar to that of Resident Evil. On the other hand, Resident Evil’s official Twitter account (seen above) teased an announcement coming on Feb. 15, seemingly unrelated to the countdown. With that in mind, it seems less likely that the countdown will lead to any Resident Evil news.

‘Monster Hunter 6’

Many Monster Hunter fans have speculated that Capcom is counting down to a Monster Hunter 6 reveal. Again, Capcom has not officially announced anything about the new installment. However, as Windows Central noted, the data breach revealed an alleged and tentative release year of 2023. If we are a year away from release, an announcement in 2022 would make sense.

‘Marvel vs. Capcom 2’ remaster

Finally, there’s a slight possibility that Capcom could announce the highly sought-after Marvel vs. Capcom 2 remaster. The original game has been difficult to find since late 2013 when Capcom pulled it from digital storefronts due to an expired license for using Marvel characters.

Back in September, game developer Digital Eclipse’s studio leader Mike Mika revealed that “discussions” with Disney and Capcom about a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 remaster have begun.

“We’ve begun some discussions on that right now, and we’re trying to see how far we can go,” Mika told GamerHubTV. “But ultimately, at the end of the day, it’s really not up to us,” Mika said. “So all we can really do is just make the best case possible and try to make it easy for them, and see if they’re interested.”

At this point, the Capcom Countdown announcement could be anything. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait too long for the big reveal. Stay tuned to see what happens on Feb. 21.
