Cardi B recently made waves when she voiced her desire to run for office. Some were open to the prospect of her becoming a politician, while others worried about her lack of experience. The rapper recently opened up about her opinion on gun rights.

Cardi B wants there to be new rules surrounding gun purchases

According to The Daily Wire, a fan tweeted to Cardi B “Owning a gun is a constitutional right just like free speech.” She replied by comparing gun rights to alcohol prohibition in the United States, saying “And it can also get prohibited like the time alcohol was but guess what ? It was allow again with regulations and strict rules and now people drink responsibly.”

The rapper elaborated “Listen, I do believe we have the right to bare arms. However I do believe in order to get a gun we should get mental check ups, proper training and [an] older age limit to own one. If the proper age limit to drinking is 21 because these kids can’t handle their liquor how can they possibly get the responsibility to own a gun? …..is that fair?”

Cardi B’s tweets inevitably garnered a mixed response. She stressed her willingness to debate with her ideological opponents. “Let me tell you something cause every time I post anything political I get attack all type of crazy .If you are a conservative & if you support a opposite party that’s OK( unless you racist)we can get into friendly debates on here voice your opinion…”

She continued in a separate tweet “And I’ll voice mines HOWEVER don’t try me and don’t take my kindness for weakness.I BE VIOLATING!!! I don’t really like being on that type of time.We grown ! Let’s be grown .Lets teach and learn .”

Some criticized Cardi B for the grammatical errors, punctuation errors, and misspellings in her tweets. Some felt this unbecoming of someone with political ambitions. Others were more concerned with the rapper’s political positions than her command of the English language.

What does Bernie Sanders think of all this?

At least one notable politician supports the rapper’s proposed political campaign. CNN reports presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has had several kind things to say about Cardi B – and vice versa. Now he has kind words for her desire to run for office.

Sanders said “Cardi B is deeply concerned about what’s happening in the country. She knows what it’s like to live in poverty and struggle, and it would be great for her to bring that experience to politics.” It’s certainly interesting to see an experienced senator like Sanders praise Cardi B’s potential as a candidate.

To some, Cardi B would be a perfect addition to the American political landscape. To others, her proposed candidacy seems like a bad joke. If she does run for office, her political career would likely be like her public persona – polarizing.
