Although Carpool Karaoke‘s host James Corden has said there was a time when he had to beg celebrities to be on The Late Late Show segment, it seems now that nearly every big star has appeared with him. From Tom Hanks to Paul McCartney and Lady Gaga to George Clooney, the inside of Corden’s car has hosted a galaxy of top names.

There are a couple of celebrities that really can’t be bothered. One who simply won’t get in and another who arrived to do it but literally walked away from it without a word.

Find out who these uninterested celebs are and why they balk at appearing on Carpool Karaoke.

Is James Corden really driving the car in ‘Carpool Karaoke’?

You may be wondering if it’s really Corden himself who’s driving the car in all the segments of Carpool Karaoke. It actually is Corden driving (except in situations where the guest star does the driving). He told NPR in 2016 how it happens.

“I’m in the car. Every camera – except for the cameras that are taking exteriors of the car – every camera is fixed. So it’s just a very, very small sort of 2 inch by 2 inch fixed GoPro camera. And there’s probably ten of those dotted around the car.”

“Normally when we do that, we’re obviously out on the normal road, so there’s a car in front of me and then me in a car behind and then one car that sort of navigates around us, if you like.”

“So essentially, we’re never driving more than 10 or 15, maybe 18 miles an hour. And you’re sort of in this cushion of the two cars either side of you. . . But the one with the first lady, we just drove around in a circle around the White House lawn. There were no other cars on the road, you know?”

The celebrity that refuses to be on ‘Carpool Karaoke’

It’s hard to believe that anyone would not like a host as positive and upbeat as James Corden. But, as it turns out, Liam Gallagher of Oasis has no use for his show. When asked by GQ in 2017 if he would ever appear on Karaoke, Gallagher didn’t hold back.

“No f–king chance mate. With that fat bloke from Kevin and Perry?” (Gallagher meant Gavin and Stacey.)

Even though Gallagher has never seen Carpool Karaoke, he said, “I don’t need to watch it to know I won’t like it. James Corden is a knobhead.”

The one that got away

Then there was Bryan Adams, the 1980s and ’90s rocker, who actually agreed to appear on Carpool Karaoke, showed up on set, and when he realized that he would have to get in a car with James Corden, just plain old walked out.

Corden and Steven Tyler were talking about the segment on The Late Late Show:

“What happened was, for the anniversary of [1985’s] Back to the Future, we were gonna do a sort of, ‘Best of the ‘80s Carpool Karaoke.’ And we had booked in a DeLorean and we booked Bryan Adams, right, to come and do the thing, and we were very excited.

Bryan’s walked in, seen the list of other people that have done it, turned around, walked, and got in his car and left. I’ve never seen – I’ve never heard from him. He just bolted. He was gone.”

It sounds like singing in a car affects people in different ways!
