People love ‘Outer Banks,’ despite how much it got wrong about the location

Some viewers were quick to point out everything the show gets wrong about the actual Outer Banks. These errors include the terms used to describe social class and the ferry boat that seemingly runs to Chapel Hill. Viewers can’t be too upset about the show’s geographical missteps — after all, the series was shot in Charleston, South Carolina.

In addition, locals don’t use the terms “Kooks” and “Pogues” in the Outer Banks, nor is the class divide like that in reality. “You have to work a couple of jobs to make it here—it’s not super expensive to live here, but it’s not cheap either,” local surfer Brent Nultemeier explained to Esquire. “[There are] people building ocean front homes and multimillion dollar places and stuff. I don’t know of a giant divide that’s clear, as they portray it on the TV show. Let’s just put it that way.”

Perhaps the most shocking difference between the fictional Outer Banks and the real town is that people don’t boat as much in reality. “I’m sure there are some communities where you can hop on your boat and get from place to place, [but] you don’t normally travel around in your boat all the time,” Nultemeier explained. “Boats aren’t cheap.”

Still, many fans are excited about another season

Regardless of it’s shortcomings, many viewers have become big fans of the series and can’t wait to see more. While the second season of Outer Banks hasn’t been confirmed, many people are eager for the announcement to be made. Showrunner Jonas Pate says he and fellow creators Josh Pate and Shannon Burke already have big plans. “Ever since we started, we always viewed [Outer Banks] as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but definitely four seasons,” Pate told Entertainment Weekly. “We’ve sort of long-arced it out pretty far. I’m just hoping that we get a chance to actually tell those stories.”

Pate and his crew have reportedly been working on scripts for season 2 of the teen drama throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) quarantine.

“I found out recently that Hailey Bieber is watching the show,” Cline said. “If she’s watching, I’m sure Justin is as well, which is crazy.” Amanda Seyfried has also seen the series, according to Cline. “[She] reached out on Instagram and said something, which, I lost my mind,” Cline revealed, adding: “I think Cody Ko also. Chase [Stokes] tweeted him, and Cody Ko went on TikTok and made a video about how he’s going to start watching, which is hilarious.”

These viewers are likely just as excited for season 2 as Outer Banks fans are!
