Chance the Rapper Once Bought All the ‘Get Out’ Tickets in a Theater so People Could Watch It for Free

Chance the Rapper goes above and beyond for good art. The Chicago native, who's a huge fan of Jordan Peele, made sure to spread his love for 'Get Out' by offering free tickets at a movie theater so more fans can enjoy the movie.

Jordan Peele’s 2017 horror film, Get Out, broke several records and was beloved by fans when it debuted. One rapper who was more than impressed by Peele’s directorial debut was Chance the Rapper. The rapper had such a strong reaction to the film that he bought every single ticket to Get Out at a Chicago theater. Why? He wanted to spread his excitement for the film by getting others to watch it for free.

Get Out created quite the storm when it came out in theaters. Apart from being almost universally acclaimed across the board, the horror film was a financial hit. Billboard reported that the film topped the box office its opening weekend. At the time, IndieWire reported that Get Out was the highest-grossing film from a debuting original script in Hollywood history. And very few individuals contributed as much to the film’s box-office success as Chance the Rapper.

Chance, who’s a bit of a movie buff himself, couldn’t contain his excitement for Peele’s psychological horror. Billboard also revealed the Chicago rapper sent out several tweets praising the Key & Peele star for his creation.

“Did I not tell y’all Get Out was incredible,” Chance posted, before claiming it was the best film in any genre he’d seen in a long time.

He later revealed that he bought out an entire theater so that his fellow Chicagoans could enjoy the movie at no cost to them.

“I bought all the tickets to Get Out at Chatham Theatre on 87th. Just pull up with ID and enjoy the movie,” Chance said. “All day guys, come through! Bring whoever, it’s free!”

But the rapper couldn’t get enough of the movie. He also tweeted that he was going back to the theater for a second viewing, further adding to Get Out’s financial legs.

Many praised Chance’s selflessnesses and love for the movie. One of those many was Get Out star himself Lil Rel Howery, who tweeted back at the MC.

Chance the Rapper couldn’t sit down while watching ‘Get Out’ in theaters

Jordan Peele was there when Chance the Rapper first saw the film in theaters. The rapper’s reactions left such an impression on Peele, that Peele couldn’t help but recall the experience to an audience.

“Chance the Rapper was [at a screening], he was there with some of his friends,” the Keanu actor said according to Vibe. “There’s so much tension in the movie, so much stress to put audience through. By the time [Daniel Kaluuya] starts getting out, it’s cathartic. When he goes Bradley Whitford with those antlers, Chance and his friends just stood up, just ‘Oh!’”

The Twilight Zone narrator later revealed, “They stood up for the rest of the film.”

‘Get Out’ wasn’t the only movie Chance the Rapper bought out a theater for

There was one other film that Chance shared a similar enthusiasm for. The 2017 film Marshall, starring Chadwick Boseman, elicited a similar response from the Chicago native. But this time, Entertainment Weekly reported that Chance bought out two theaters to give audiences a better chance to see it for free.

“I bought all the tickets all day to go see Marshall at the movie theatre on 87th and the one on Roosevelt,” Chance posted on Twitter. “Go see Marshall today for free. Come to the one at 3. It’s lit. I don’t usually write my own press releases.

He later tweeted the exact address of the theater and urged people to come to the showing at three. To ensure as many moviegoers as possible, the rapper claimed he had plenty of surprises in store.
