But more recently, showrunner Derek Haas announced he hopes to get Casey to return for the season finale. Now, we’re looking back at the best Matt Casey moments to get fans hyped for his possible return at the end of the season.

Matt Casey and Gabby Dawson had an early relationship before Chicago Fire Season 10. They went through a number of difficult times, and viewers thought Casey was surely going to die during the season 5 finale. The finale featured an intense warehouse fire that prompted Casey to call Dawson and tell her goodbye. “You’re my miracle,” he told Dawson.

Thankfully, Casey lived through the fire — but fans had to wait until season 6 to find out. The Hollywood Reporter reminds us Casey even won a medal for his bravery through the fire. And we’ll never forget how scared we felt as fans waiting after the season ended to find out if Casey made it out alive.

Ultimately, Matt Casey and Gabby Dawson don’t end up together. But they go through a lot as a couple. And the moment when Casey learned that Dawson lost their child is a heartbreaking one fans will never forget.

Looper reminds us Chicago Fire Season 4 shows Dawson rushed to the hospital for abdominal pain. During surgery, she found out she had an ectopic pregnancy. The tragedy has a profound effect on both Casey and Dawson, and it marks the beginning of the end of their relationship.

When he put Hank Voight in his place

Matt Casey is extremely loyal to the Chicago Fire crew. And one time, he had it out with Chicago P.D. star Hank Voight. TVGuide notes Voight attempted to cover up a DUI his son committed, and Casey wanted to still file a police report. Voight threatened Casey and Casey’s then-fiancée, and Casey was unimpressed.

“Know this — I’m not retracting my statement — ever,” Casey told Voight in a tense scene in Voight’s office after Voight’s threats.

When Matt Casey confesses his love to Sylvie Brett

Matt Casey sustained several relationships in the show, and his love for Sylvie Brett in Chicago Fire Season 10 brings fans a lot of joy. In Chicago Fire Season 9 Episode 15, Casey told Brett exactly how he feels about her, and it’s the heartwarming moment fans waited for.

“I’m in love with you, Sylvie — nobody else,” Casey tells her during a beautiful speech, according to Queen’s Couch. At that moment, every doubt Brett had about Casey and his past completely disappeared. We knew they’d be together for the long haul after that.
