The Chicago Fire Season 10 finale is nearly here, and fans can’t wait to see Jesse Spencer back in action. Jesse Spencer plays Matt Casey, and he left earlier in the season. Now, he’s returning for Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide’s wedding — but is coming back for good? Here’s what we know.

Fans are more excited than ever to see Matt Casey in the Chicago Fire Season 10 finale. Why did Jesse Spencer leave in the first place? He explained to Us Weekly that he’d been on the show since the very beginning, and he needed a change of pace. In the show, Casey decided to move to Oregon to care for the late Andy Darden’s kids.

“I realized I’ve been doing TV for a long time,” Spencer explained to Us Weekly. ” … I called Derek [Haas, the showrunner] and broke him the news, said I thought it was time to leave the show, and he agreed that we should at least get Casey to 200 episodes.”

Now, he’s back for the Stellaride wedding. Showrunner Derek Haas explained how it all went down to Variety.

“Basically, we went to Jesse a month ago or so,” Haas noted. “We officially said, ‘Severide’s getting married and there’s no way that Severide can get married without his best friend and his best man at the wedding. So whatever we need to say to get you to come with us, please.’ Jesse is the greatest and we were thrilled he agreed to do it.”

Is Matt Casey coming back to ‘Chicago Fire’ for good?

With Matt Casey’s return in the Chicago Fire Season 10 finale, does this mean he’s back for good? It seems the ball’s in Jesse Spencer’s court.

“Door’s always open on our end,” Derek Haas told TVLine. “I have no idea what the future holds. It’s kind of like that with a bunch of our characters from the past, where we just love the actors, and we understand when a show goes on this long that people aren’t going to make a lifelong commitment to us. We tend to love to have characters come back from the past, so there’s no ending, as far as our show is concerned, for Casey.”

It seems likely that Matt Casey may make a few more guest appearances over the years. But given Spencer’s original stance on leaving the series, we don’t expect he’ll return as a main cast member.

The NBC series will have at least 1 more season

While the Chicago Fire Season 10 finale brings the season to a close, fans shouldn’t fret. Chicago Fire Season 11 is coming soon. NBC Insider reports NBC announced the new season and brand new episodes will air in fall 2022.

All three One Chicago shows, which include Chicago Med and Chicago P.D., have been renewed for at least one more season. After all three shows conclude with the next season, it’s unclear what the future holds. But if the shows continue to have good ratings and rake in viewers, it’s likely fans will see even more seasons to come.

The Chicago Fire Season 10 finale airs Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
