Fans of NBC’s One Chicago can’t wait to see how Chicago Fire Season 10, Chicago Med Season 7, and Chicago P.D. Season 9 conclude. All three shows have riveting story arcs this season that are hailed by fans and critics as compelling. But it looks like Chicago Fire and Chicago Med are dipping in ratings ahead of the One Chicago holiday break. Here’s what’s happening.

NBC’s One Chicago shows are officially on a holiday break

Fans waiting for new episodes of Chicago P.D. Season 9, Chicago Fire Season 10, and Chicago Med Season 7 will have to wait awhile for fresh content. NBC’s One Chicago shows are officially on holiday break. Episode 8 for each of the three shows aired on Nov. 10, 2021 — and there are plenty of storylines that the showrunners need to wrap up when the shows finally return.

As for what will happen during the holiday break, it seems likely NBC will air old episodes of the shows. And Chicago Fire fans can rejoice the most, as they can anticipate a special holiday episode of Fire in the future. Showrunner Derek Haas confirmed the holiday special will be one fans can’t miss, as it’s the first of its kind in a number of seasons.

“For the first time in years, as long as I can remember, we’re doing a holiday episode,” Haas explained to TVLine. “Episode 9 is going to make the Hallmark Channel jealous of our holiday episode.” Haas then noted episode 9 is “kind of on this island by itself” in December, “so we thought, ‘Hmm, maybe we could do a holiday episode’ — and I wrote it.”

‘Chicago Fire’ Season 10 and ‘Chicago Med’ Season 7 dip in ratings ahead of the holiday break

One Chicago fans are certainly loyal, and we’re sure they’ll return in December to see the rest of Chicago Fire Season 10, Chicago P.D. Season 9, and Chicago Med Season 7. Unfortunately, it looks like Chicago Fire and Chicago Med took a hit in ratings after episode 8.

According to SpoilerTV, Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 8 received 6.455 million viewers. Episode 7 received 6.673 million viewers.

Chicago Fire Season 7 Episode 8 reportedly received 6.629 million viewers. This is down from episode 7, which received 7.002 million viewers.

Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 8 had a slight fall from the previous week, but for the most part, the show remained steady. Episode 8 had 5.576 million viewers, whereas episode 7 had 5.577 million viewers.

All in all, it looks like Med and Fire are now pulling in more viewers overall than P.D. But all three shows are still incredibly successful for NBC, thus fans can expect plenty more content in the future.

When will ‘Chicago P.D.,’ ‘Chicago Fire,’ and ‘Chicago Med’ return?

While the One Chicago holiday break is upsetting fans, they can anticipate Chicago P.D. Season 9, Chicago Fire Season 10, and Chicago Med Season 7 all returning at some point in December. So, when will fans get to see the shows conclude their seasons?

According to the One Chicago Twitter account, the shows return on Dec. 8, 2021. “We’re just as bummed as you are,” the Twitter account posted with the news of the holiday break. It also seems Dec. 8 may mark the day of the fall season finales for all three shows. This likely means the shows will then return in mid-January 2022 to continue on into the new year.

Perhaps the time away from One Chicago will boost the ratings. We’ll have to wait and see!
