NBC’s One Chicago shows are no strangers to death, and according to showrunner Derek Haas, fans should expect the unexpected in the Chicago Fire Season 10 finale. According to Haas, the finale will likely include some death, though he didn’t indicate whose life could be in jeopardy.

“This finale … when you think about our epic finales that we’ve had over the years, and you start listing what was the best finale that we’ve ever had on Chicago Fire, season 10 is going to be at the top of the list,” Haas said over a video interview with Meet Us At Molly’s. “You know how some of those articles are like, ‘Did they have a wedding? Did they have a death? Did they have a whatever?’ I’m just telling you, get ready … get all your boxes checked. It’s coming.”

The idea of a character’s death might alarm fans. Which character will die during the finale? To alleviate some stress, Haas then noted, “I didn’t say a main character’s death. There might be a body.”

The Chicago Fire Season 10 finale sounds huge, but Derek Haas’ comment about a potential death has fans wondering who will go down. Some fans on Reddit think Chief Evan Hawkins will take the hit, especially because of his romance with Violet Mikami.

“I think Hawkins is going to die,” a Reddit user posted. “It’s a feeling. Derek Haas said that not everyone’s gonna make it in the season finale. It’s gonna be a big one. I think that Hawkami is so popular that the writers don’t see any other way to break them up. This, or the pressure is so high that Hawkins decides to end it and chooses another firehouse/stays away from Firehouse 51 completely.”

Other fans think the writers won’t kill off Hawkins.

“I don’t think they’ll kill him off, but they do need to figure out what to do with him, because right now he’s serving no purpose besides being Violet’s love interest since he doesn’t interact with anyone else,” another Reddit fan wrote.

The finale will likely focus on Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd’s wedding

Aside from a possible major character death, fans can anticipate Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide having a wedding during the Chicago Fire Season 10 finale. Executive producer Andrea Newman told Meet Us At Molly’s more information regarding what’s to come.

“The wedding thing is so fun, like thinking of it and trying to decide if they’re going to take that leap,” Newman noted. “For both of them, as much as they love each other, there is some dark history with each of those characters in terms of marriage and relationships.” Newman then explained that Kidd’s past abusive relationship and Severide’s broken parents add challenges to the engagement.

“It would be a huge leap for them to go there, and the question is: Can they really do it?” she added. “They both want to. They obviously love each other. They’re engaged.”

Additionally, fans can likely look forward to Matt Casey’s return in the finale. He won’t miss Severide’s wedding, that’s for sure.

Chicago Fire Season 10 airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
