NBC’s Chicago Fire Season 10 continues to show conflict within Firehouse 51. After Stella Kidd failed to return to Chicago due to her Girls on Fire program, Jason Pelham took over for Matt Casey as the new lieutenant. But the preview for Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 12 shows Pelham continues to run into roadblocks with the new job. Here’s what showrunner Derek Haas said about Pelham, Kidd, and Kelly Severide driving “the plots” in future episodes.

‘Chicago Fire’ Season 10 Episode 12 shows Jason Pelham’s lieutenant job might be in jeopardy

Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 11 showed Jason Pelham in a sticky situation. After a firefighter gets injured on the job, she blames Pelham, the new lieutenant. While the squad supported Pelham, Chief Wallace Boden explains investigators still have to look into the situation.

Now, in Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 12, the plot thickens for Pelham. The promo video for the new episode shows Boden standing up for Pelham even though Pelham has a target on his back.

“This isn’t your fight,” Pelham tells Boden.

“The hell it isn’t,” Boden tells him in response.

Additionally, it seems like Kelly Severide will stand with Pelham to help him clear his name of any wrongdoing. It’s likely Stella Kidd will stand up for Pelham as well.

With all of this in mind, is Jason Pelham leaving Chicago Fire? There’s currently no indication that Pelham will depart, but given the current trouble, it’s possible he could be removed from his lieutenant position.

Showrunner Derek Haas said Stella Kidd, Kelly Severide, and Jason Pelham will drive the plot forward

Showrunner Derek Haas spoke to TV Guide about what’s to come for the show — and he gave a few hints about future plot points. It’s clear Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 12 will focus on Jason Pelham’s standing in the firehouse, but we’ll also see way more of Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide. Kidd and Severide have had a tense relationship since her return.

“There are a few sticky spots because of Kidd being gone as long as she was and not really communicating well, with both Boden and Severide, and those two things are basically how are she and Severide doing as a couple,” Haas told TV Guide. “And then second, what about this lieutenant spot that was on Truck 81 and she didn’t come and claim it and now the spot has been claimed by Pelham? So, those are two things that can drive the plots of upcoming episodes, and so you’ll be seeing more of that.”

Is Stella Kidd coming back to Chicago Fire for good? In another interview with TVLine, Haas said fans can expect to see her stay. “The next batch of episodes, certainly, the driving force of them will be Stella Kidd’s return to Firehouse 51 and all the offshoots of that,” he explained.

With the current focus on Jason Pelham, what’s happening with Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide? The couple remains on shaky ground after Kidd’s return. But they continue to talk about Kidd going dark on Severide after she left Chicago, so it seems like they can sort out their relationship difficulties and move forward as a strong couple.

With that in mind, Severide and Wendy Seager have also gotten flirty in the past. “You haven’t seen the last of Seager,” Haas added during his interview with TV Guide. This could certainly throw a wrench in Severide’s relationship with Kidd.

Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 12 airs Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022, at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
