The Chicago Fire showrunner hinted at what’s next for both cast members.

Matt Casey leaving Chicago Fire Season 10 shocked everyone. Jesse Spencer was a staple in the Chicago Fire cast since the show’s humble beginnings. But, due to personal reasons and a want for a change of pace, the actor parted ways with the show.

Now, we’re many episodes beyond Casey’s departure. And fans wonder if Sylvie Brett will be the next to leave Chicago Fire Season 10. Episode 15 highlights the difficulties in sustaining a long-distance relationship. TV Insider notes Brett talks about how much she misses Casey after FaceTiming him — and she then confirms that she needs to take “some real time off” to actually spend time with her boyfriend. This likely means extended time away from her duties as a paramedic.

“I just got hit by this wave of all the things I miss about him,” Brett explains to Stella Kidd and Violet Mikami. “That warmth, you know, the way he could be so strong but also kind and he has that gift of making everyone feel like everything’s going to be OK.”

It’s not yet confirmed whether this means Brett will leave. But it certainly could point to it.

With Sylvie Brett’s admission in Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 15, what’s next for her and Matt Casey? Showrunner Derek Haas hinted at what’s to come. From the sounds of what Haas has to say, Brett isn’t going anywhere.

“It would have felt like cheating after having them building that relationship over so many seasons, and then just throwing it away because of production demand,” Haas told Variety in February 2022. “So, we thought it was realistic, especially in this day and age, that people can keep a relationship going. It’s been fun for us because we love Casey so much as writers that we want him to keep his presence.”

Perhaps an episode of Chicago Fire will feature Brett going to see Casey — but it seems more than likely she’ll return.

When Matt Casey left Chicago Fire Season 10, fans wondered if he’d ever return. So, is he gone for good? While speaking to TV Insider, Derek Haas hinted he’d love to have Casey make a cameo or two.

In December 2021, Haas talked to TV Insider about Casey and Brett’s long-distance relationship. “However, I will say I do think they’re handling it well, I do think she’s going to go see him before too long this season, and hopefully, fingers and toes crossed, we can get a certain actor who has had a long experience on the show back for a guest appearance,” he noted, clearly referencing Casey. “That would be delightful.”

To Variety, Haas noted he’d love to have Casey return for a wedding — likely Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide’s. “I would be mortified if there was a wedding that didn’t include Casey,” the showrunner noted.
