Will fans get to see new episodes of Chicago P.D. Season 9 tonight, March 23, 2022? Unfortunately, hopeful viewers will have to wait. Chicago P.D. Season 9 is on another short hiatus, and new episodes won’t air again until Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

In the meantime, fans can still watch Chicago P.D. in its normal timeslot of 10 p.m. EST on NBC — but the episode airing on March 23rd is a rerun. Season 9 episode 5, “Burnside,” is airing when the show typically airs new episodes. On Wednesday, March 30th, NBC airs Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 6, “End of Watch.”

In Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 16, which aired on March 16, 2022, involved Hank Voight working with Anna Avalos as she went undercover working at Javier Escano’s bakery. The previous episodes in the season focused on Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek working together to save Burgess’s daughter, Makayla, after a kidnapping.

The episode 17 promo indicates more conflict for Jay Halstead and Hank Voight

With fans having to wait for Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 17 until April, what can they expect? According to the promo, it looks like episode 17 will involve a raid — and it’s likely associated with episode 16. Episode 16 left off with Javier Escano telling Anna Avalos that he’s aware of her past and how much she knows about him, leaving her potentially vulnerable to him harming her, as he clearly has the upper hand. She remains in the bakery undercover when episode 16 ends, and episode 17 will likely pick up where the scene left off.

Another scene from the episode 17 promo shows Adam Ruzek carrying Kim Burgess’s daughter, Makayla. Another quick flash of a scene shows Kevin Atwater and Burgess holding guns.

Finally, the voiceover from the promo is Jay Halstead’s. “You want to protect the city?” he tells Hank Voight. “So do I.”

Are fans in for more of Halstead and Voight butting heads? The two majorly clashed after the death of Roy Walton, but they seem to have gotten past that situation. Episode 17 may bring more conflict back to the duo.

Another hiatus for Chicago P.D. means fans are wondering if any of the cast members will get hurt, killed, or leave the unit altogether. So, who’s leaving Chicago P.D. Season 9 as the season gallops toward the finale?

While many fans assumed Kim Burgess may die or leave the unit early on in the season, she’s made it clear she’s sticking around. And it seems the rest of the unit remains intact, too. There haven’t been any whisperings of certain Chicago P.D. cast members calling it quits just yet. But the cast still thinks about it.

“We always think so. Always,” Adam Ruzek actor Patrick John Flueger told Us Weekly about his character getting killed off. “Especially when we get toward episode 22, 23. It’s kind of like, ‘Oh, am I dying?’”

If all goes well, the unit will remain together until Chicago P.D. Season 10.

Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
