Fans of Chicago P.D. Season 9 are excited to see the rest of the season after the Winter Olympics air on NBC. While One Chicago fans wait patiently for the show’s return, they have a few questions on their minds — like who will potentially call it quits on the Intelligence Unit this season. So, who’s leaving the Chicago P.D. Season 9 cast? Here are our top three guesses.

Who from the ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9 cast will leave in 2022? Adam Ruzek could potentially call it quits

Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess have had an off-again, on-again relationship for many seasons. In Chicago P.D. Season 9, Ruzek helped care for Burgess after she was shot in season 8. They grew closer once more, and they even decided they would move in together following some conflict with Burgess’s daughter, Makayla. But is Adam Ruzek leaving Chicago P.D.?

Actor Patrick John Flueger interviewed with Hello! regarding where Ruzek stands. And it sounds like as Ruzek gets more involved with Burgess’s personal life, he’s rethinking his job with the police.

“Ruzek really wants to step up and he’s realizing that being in the police isn’t all there is,” Flueger said. “That was a big part of his life and he wanted to succeed in the job. Every time he jumps out of the car he is doing the best by the people he is trying to protect. But I think he is finally taking a step back — especially after what happened to Kim and him stepping up with Makayla. He sees what is important now.”

With this in mind, it’s certainly possible Ruzek will leave the unit by the end of the season to focus on family.

Is Kevin Atwater leaving ‘Chicago P.D.’? LaRoyce Hawkins left a few clues

Could Kevin Atwater leave Chicago P.D. Season 9? Atwater was involved with Celeste, but after he lied about his profession to her, their relationship went south. According to showrunner Gwen Sigan, Atwater will continue to question his identity with the police force and what he wants moving forward. This, of course, could lead to him leaving altogether.

“Atwater’s lies put him in a tricky position — both morally and on the job,” Sigan told TVLine. “It’s quite a dilemma for him and also explores some deep territory Atwater’s been dealing with this season — the reasons he felt compelled to lie to Celeste, his relationship to being police, and his identity at large.”

If Atwater and Celeste manage to get back together, we wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves Chicago P.D. behind.

Hank Voight could also leave within the season

‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9: Kevin Atwater Has to Make the ‘Right Decisions’ to Keep His Job and Relationship, LaRoyce Hawkins Warns

Hank Voight is a staple on Chicago P.D. Season 9, and fans can’t imagine the show without him. But the dynamic for Voight continues to shift. After nearly getting caught by the FBI for doing away with Roy Walton’s body, his relationship with Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton shifted. It’s possible he may start to question his value with the force. Tracy Spiridakos also said her character, Upton, doesn’t look up to Voight the same way she once did.

Gwen Sigan spoke to TVLine about possible changes for Voight moving forward after everything that happened with Walton, too. “There’s also the reality always hanging there, that what he did to Roy, it didn’t work,” Sigan said. “All it did was cause lots of pain. So yes, it will spark some attempts at change.” Could this change have to do with his job at large, or just within the unit? Thankfully, actor Jason Beghe hasn’t given any additional reason for fans to worry that he wants to leave.

We’ll have to wait and see if any of these predictions prove correct. If they do leave, it will certainly change the police unit forever.
