Fans are anticipating a major showdown during the Chicago P.D. Season 9 fall season finale. Jay Halstead learned the truth about Hailey Upton killing Roy Walton after he chased down Hank Voight to tell him what really happened. Halstead knew something was up after Upton stopped eating, sleeping, and acting like herself. Eventually, Voight told Halstead the truth — and it ended with Halstead punching Voight in the face and noting his distrust for Voight and the unit.

While Halstead remains angry at Voight, the two are still like family. And now, Halstead has a major decision to make. In Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 8, FBI Agent North told Halstead he has two options. Either Halstead helps the FBI take the fall for Walton’s death, or both Halstead and Upton will go down instead.

If Jay Halstead sides with the FBI, Hank Voight’s career with the Intelligence Unit could be over. So, is Hank Voight leaving Chicago P.D. for good? Thankfully, there’s no current evidence to suggest Voight is leaving the unit. According to the NBC synopsis for the Chicago P.D. Season 9 fall finale, Halstead makes a plan with Voight to get them both out of their bind.

Halstead actor Jesse Lee Soffer talked about Halstead’s headspace going into episode 9 with TVLine. “He loves Hailey, but he loves Voight, too,” Soffer said of Halstead. “All of his Spidey senses are going, ‘Some of this is really wrong, and we can’t keep living like this. So how do we fix it? How do we change it?’”

However, Soffer then noted there’s a part of Halstead that knows turning Voight in might be the right way to go. “There might be a real part of him that wants to turn Voight in, that thinks maybe that would be the right thing, no matter how much you love the guy or how good he is for Chicago,” he added.
