Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 7 continues to show the strife between Jay Halstead, Hailey Upton, and Hank Voight. Fans want to know what’s in store for Halstead and Upton moving forward, as their relationship seems rocky after the truth regarding Roy’s death came out. But Upton actor Tracy Spiridakos noted Upton and Halstead had a scene where they picked out rings. Here’s what she said in an interview.

Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton get engaged in ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9

Fans want to know where Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton stand in Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 7. At the end of season 8, Upton shot and killed Roy, the attacker who shot Kim Burgess twice. Upton hadn’t planned to kill Roy, but when Roy reached for Hank Voight’s gun, she did what she thought was right to save the sergeant’s life. Unfortunately, this led to a mental and emotional unravelling for her, as she’s been dealing with the secret of Roy’s death ever since.

Following the death of Roy, Upton proposed to Halstead seemingly out of nowhere. Halstead was wary of the proposal, but in the season 9 premiere, he said yes. But Spiridakos noted the secret of Roy’s death continued to “eat away” at Upton, causing tension between herself and Halstead.

“It’s eating away at her,” Spiridakos explained to TVLine, “and Halstead starts to notice that something’s off with her and continues to ask.”

Jay Halstead learned the truth about Hailey Upton killing Roy in Chicago P.D. Season 9. So, will the two continue their engagement? While Halstead actor Jesse Lee Soffer hinted the engagement may end, Spiridakos left a clue we may see the two reconcile with what occurred. Spiridakos told TV Insider her character and Halstead had a scene involving picking out rings.

“I’m not sure if there’s going to be an actual wedding this season or if that’ll come later,” she told TV Insider. “There was a scene where there was some ring picking out. And as a scene kind of unravels, everyone’s like, ‘Yeah, we knew, whatever.’ As far as the wedding goes, I’m not sure when that’s going to happen, if, who knows?”

It’s unclear whether production will keep the alleged ring-picking-out scene in season 9, though.

Will fans see a Jay Halstead/Hailey Upton wedding in Chicago P.D. Season 9? As Spiridakos noted, she doesn’t think there are any immediate plans for a wedding. And Soffer told One Chicago Center he doesn’t foresee Halstead asking his brother, Will, for help with the wedding anytime soon.

“I think it’s going to be so bumpy at first, that I don’t foresee Will needing to help Jay with his Best Man’s speech,” Soffer said. “If Will is involved, then that would mean that everything is going well and is probably running smoothly for Jay because maybe the marriage is really going to happen.”

With that said, we can’t forget that Spiridakos noted to CinemaBlend that “Jay is Hailey’s world,” and she deeply fears losing him. If anyone’s going to call off the wedding, it’s likely to be Halstead.

Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
