Are Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton together? Upton made a surprise proposal in ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 8

Chicago P.D. Season 9 spoilers are here — and they know whether Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton are together after that Chicago P.D. Season 8 finale. The last season of the show showed Upton and Hank Voight in a serious situation after Upton killed Roy, the suspect who shot Kim Burgess. At first, Voight started aggressing on Roy, and Upton warned Voight not to kill Roy, as it would create a horrible situation for both of them. But after Roy went for a gun Voight left within his reach, Upton made the quick decision to shoot Roy herself, killing him.

Voight covered up Roy’s death and disposed of the body. Together, the duo decided to cover his death. And the stress consumed Upton, as she proposed to Halstead out of nowhere during the season 8 finale.

Now, in Chicago P.D. Season 9, Halstead will have to decide how to handle the proposal. And Chicago P.D. Season 9 spoilers suggest it could get tricky for the couple.

Chicago P.D. Season 9 spoilers note episode 1 begins with Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton right after the proposal. Halstead asks Upton if she really means to propose to him — and she says yes.

“I don’t want to be without you,” she tells him. ” … I want to start a new chapter, a better chapter, with you.”

Halstead initially doesn’t answer Upton’s proposal, as he wants to get to the hospital to see how Kim Burgess is doing. Upton then goes to shower, and she considers everything that’s led her to this point so far. She also scrubs her hands as if to clean the blood off.

Finally, by the end of the episode, viewers see Halstead give an answer to the proposal. But he first asks Upton if she’s “sure” it wasn’t just Kim’s injuries that made her want to propose.

“Maybe,” she stated, “but why does that matter? I love you. … Maybe it took Kim getting shot to give me the courage to tell you that.”

Halstead finally says “yes” to the proposal, and he gets down on one knee to do the proposal again.

Do Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton end their time on Chicago P.D. as a married couple? According to Chicago P.D. Season 9 spoilers, it seems things might get complicated for the couple. While they seem happily engaged at the end of episode 1, everything could change if Halstead learns of what happened with Roy.

“They are both complicit in the cover-up, and consequences could fall down hard on them both,” executive producer Rick Eid said, TV Insider reports.

Eid also made comments about Halstead’s thought process here. “He’s very much in love, but also aware that he’s in love with a complicated person,” Eid said. “He’ll take his time to determine where this proposal is coming from.”

Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs Wednesdays on NBC at 10 p.m. EST.
