Chris Evans was part of an iconic fight scene in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

For many Marvel fans, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is one of the best films in the MCU. It’s also considered the best of Captain America’s solo flicks. One of the biggest reasons the film is so popular is because it explores Cap’s adjustments to living in a modern world.

One of the most memorable moments in the film was the elevator fight scene. It featured Steve Rogers’ Captain America and an elevator full of Hydra agents posing as members of S.H.I.E.L.D.

A Marvel fan posted a behind-the-scenes video

The iconic elevator scene wasn’t an easy one to shoot. It took a ton of rehearsal to get the choreography right. To give fans a peek at what it took to shoot the sequence, Reddit user SuperheroNick posted a behind-the-scenes video of the scene rehearsal.

The clip proves that Evans’ was just as intense during the rehearsal as he was in the filmed scene that made the final cut. It’s easy to see why the moment turned out to be one of the most iconic during the first three phases of the MCU.

Chris Evans and Frank Grillo filmed the ‘Captain America’ scene over seven days

When Cap discovered that Hydra had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., it meant that the people he thought were his allies were actually his enemies. Inside that glass elevator, Evans and actor Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow) went at it while it hurled to the ground.

Grillo told Express that the scene required him and Evans to actually connect during the fight to make it look more realistic. He also revealed that the intense fight scene took seven days to film.

“Yeah we did a lot of training and then on the day, I realized it was necessary for us to hit each other for real because it was so tight,” Grillo said.

Frank Grillo explained they ‘didn’t leave anything in the elevator’

“We were black and blue and sore. And, you know, we beat each other up!” Grillo said.

The actor considers Winter Soldier to be Marvel’s best film. Grillo also touched on what it took to make the Avengers movies. He noted that even though he was in Endgame for just a minute, he was in Atlanta for two weeks to shoot the scene.

“The thing about movies like that, even if you’re in it a little, it’s impactful. Because you know those movies are the most popular movies in the world,” Grillo said.

Chris Evans’ Captain America returned to the same moment in ‘Avengers: Endgame’

The Winter Soldier was the first film in the MCU that Joe and Anthony Russo directed. It was the second time writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely had written a Captain America script. As one fan noted, the “Markus-McFeely/Russo Brothers combo makes for a “powerful film.”

That same writing/directing team returned for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. They decided to include a fun callback to that amazing Winter Soldier moment when Cap goes back to 2012 to retrieve an Infinity Stone.
