Watch the teaser trailer for season 3 below. Cobra Kai returns Jan. 8, 2021 on Netflix.

‘Cobr Kai’ season 2’s epic cliffhanger

Netflix viewers tuned in to see Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) resume their teenage rivalry from The Karate Kid. They did, as Johnny re-opened Cobra Kai dojo, teaching a new generation of karate kids martial arts. Daniel also taught his daughter Samantha (Mary Mouser) and a new student Robbie (Tanner Buchanan) the ways of Miyagi-do, not knowing that Robbie was Johnny’s son.

Rivalries between the dojos erupted on the first day of school in a battle royale in the halls. Johnny’s star pupil Miguel (Xolo Maridueña) shows Robbie mercy, a sign of growth from Cobra Kai teachings. However, Robbie kicks Miguel off the second floor stairs in a fit of rage.

Cobra Kai probably wouldn’t kill Miguel, but they could totally give him a serious permanent injury. If he can never walk again, let along practice karate, that would be one dramatic way to show the permanent consequences of mercy or lack thereof.

Yes, Miguel is alive, but is he okay?

Cobra Kai fans can breathe one sigh of relief. The season 3 teaser shows Miguel waking up in the hospital. Now, his head is still in traction, so he still may not walk and he could still suffer any other kind of permanent damage from his fight with Robbie.

After nearly two years of waiting, some fans can breathe one sigh of relief. Miguel is alive and Maridueña will return for season 3. We still have many months to wait for answers to more questions.

More questions for ‘Cobra Kai’ season 3

In addition to the extent of Miguel’s injuries, season 2 left many questions on the table. The season showed Johnny reaching out to an old high school friend on Facebook. The final shot of the season was that character accepting his friend request. Could that Oscar-nominated actress appear in season 3?

Daniel’s wife Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) made Daniel promise to stop teaching karate in light of Miguel’s injury. He agreed for now, as one would reasonably assent in the face of the injury of a child. The show is called Cobra Kai and it just got renewed for a fourth season, so it’s likely somehow Daniel would return to karate at some point.

And what of Cobra Kai dojo? John Kreese (Martin Kove) staged a coup of all of Johnny’s students and forced him out of his own dojo. Johnny was just starting the path to redemption. How is he going to redeem himself, and Cobra Kai, now?
