Cobra Kai shows all the drama that happens when teenagers practice Karate, as well as regular growing up drama. The young cast of the show is experiencing some milestone moments in real life. Jacob Bertrand, who plays Eli/Hawk on the show, recently revealed he had his first automobile accident.

Bertrand co-hosts the Lone Lobos podcast with co-star Xolo Maridueña. On the Oct. 12 episode, Bertrand told the story of his first automobile accident. Cobra Kai Season 4 premieres Dec. 31 on Netflix and the show is renewed for season 5, too.

What is Jacob Bertrand’s age?

Born March 6, 2000, Bertrand was already 21 when he told the story. If he got his driver’s license right at 16, that’s a good five years accident free.

“I got in my first car accident ever just this weekend and you were in the car with me,” Bertrand said on Lone Lobos. “I was in traffic and I tapped the car in front of me. The lady got out, was like, ‘Oh my God, what the? We’re in traffic, how did this happen?’ That’s really what she sounded like.”

Maridueña helped set the scene.

“She got so mad before she even looked at the car,” he said. “She got out of the car and starts immediately yelling at you.”

Jacob Bertrand’s automobile accident did not cause a ‘Cobra Kai’ brawl

Major fight scenes have ensued on Cobra Kai over far less than an automobile accident. In fact, in the series premiere, Samantha LaRusso (Mary Mouser) commits hit and run on Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka)’s car. Fortunately, Bertrand’s accident was just a tap.

Yeah, she got hit but I’m in a really big car and she was in a small Prius or Camry or something. We get out of the car and I will say, I’m so grateful for this lady for being honest because she got out of the car, was screaming at me, went and looked at the damage and there were a bunch of little scratches and bumps on her car. She looked at this one little ding, was like, ‘What? Oh well, actually, that actually was already there. You can go.’ I was like, ‘Oh, okay, so I guess my car actually didn’t do any damage to her.’”

Jacob Bertrand thanks her for her honesty

As anyone who’s been in a minor fender bender knows, the aftermath can be a fraught time. Insurance companies recommend both parties exchange information. However, with no witnesses, the insurance companies must make a determination. Accident victims have been known to claim pre-existing damage was the result of the collision, so they can make someone else pay for it. Bertrand acknowledged his responsibility, but was glad there was no damage and the other driver didn’t seek to escalate the situation.

“But she totally could’ve lied and been like, ‘Oh, see this bump here? That wasn’t here before. You caused this,’” Bertrand said. “She was honest and was just like, ‘Oh yeah, you didn’t do any damage. Watch where you’re going, young man.’”

Maridueña still didn’t appreciate her condescension towards his friend and Cobra Kai partner.

“She gave him the ‘I’m older than you,’” Maridueña said.
