In the past Derick has claimed in social media posts that Jim Bob Duggar keeps all of the money TLC pays the family for Counting On. This is despite the fact that his kids are the stars of the show.

Jill and Derick’s latest video is titled “Q&A: Birth Control, Budget, LGBTQ+ More!” In it, they revealed that they had to hire a lawyer to get paid for starring in Counting On. The revelation came when a fan asked the couple how they are surviving financially while Derick is in law school.

“Up until the time we left the show, we hadn’t been paid for anything,” Jill revealed. “Of course there were perks that came along with filming. If you were traveling or whatever they might cover those expenses.”

Jill said they were grateful for that, but they didn’t actually get paid until they hired a lawyer. Derick added that once they got an attorney involved they were able to recover a portion of what Jill should have been paid.

Derick disclosed to fans that they have officially monetized their YouTube channel. He wanted to make it clear that he and Jill were earning money for the Q&A videos they’ve posted recently.

Jill and Derick dropped a major bombshell proving they are distancing themselves from Jim Bob even further

As Counting On fans know, Jim Bob has a strict set of rules for his family. Some of the strictest rules involve relationships, as he doesn’t allow his children to date. Instead, they are allowed to court, which is dating with the purpose of marriage.

When his children are courting, they are always with a chaperone. No physical contact is allowed, which means they don’t get their first kiss until their wedding day. When it comes to marriage, Jim Bob and his wife Michelle are strongly opposed to using birth control.

“Yes. We use birth control, but we prefer to use non-hormonal birth control methods. Because we don’t want to use anything that could cause an abortion,” Jill revealed.

She added that they do want to have more children someday. Jill and Derick – who share two sons – are mindful of their birth control choices because they don’t want to hurt their chances of having another baby.
