Like many people, Jinger Duggar is spending her coronavirus lockdown catching up on some television.

In an Instagram Q&A with her husband Jeremy Vuolo posted April 14, the Counting On star and mom of one explained how she’s staying busy while stuck inside. In addition to caring for daughter Felicity, listening to podcasts, and doing puzzles, the couple has been spending some serious time with Netflix. And their most recent favorite show makes perfect sense when you think about Jeremy’s background.

Jinger and Jeremy recommend ‘The English Game’

While millions of Americans have been binge-watching Tiger King, the Vuolos have been watching something completely different. During the Q&A, they raved about The English Game, a six-part limited series from Julian Fellowes, the creator of Downton Abbey. The period drama is all about the development of soccer and the conflict between the working-class men who became the game’s rising stars and the upper-class gentlemen who wanted to control the sport.

“It’s so good guys. You’ve got to check it out,” Jinger said, adding that the series was “moving.” Jeremy agreed, calling the show “the best.”

Jinger and Jeremy’s enthusiasm for the show makes sense when you remember that he once played professional soccer. After graduating from Syracuse University in 2010, he played abroad before spending one season with MLS’s New York Red Bulls.

In addition to The English Game, the couple mentioned watching The Great British Bake-Off and Madam Secretary. Jinger’s enthusiasm for the latter show surprised some fans when she mentioned it a few weeks ago. They were shocked that she’d watch a show with a perceived liberal slant.

After praising The English Game, Jinger and Jeremy asked for Netflix recommendations from their followers, since they’re quickly burning through their queue.

Though they normally try to limit their TV time, they’re spending more time in front of the screen since the lockdown began. “We’ve watched a show every night,” Jinger admitted. She said they were always looking “any good recommendations, clean shows.”

Jinger’s followers were happy to chime in with their ideas about what she and Jeremy should watch next. Several people suggested other period dramas, including When Calls the Heart, The Crown, Land Girls, Self-Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker, and Call the Midwife. Others pointed her to Nailed It, another baking show, as well as feel-good dramas like Heartland and Virgin River.

Another recommended Unorthodox, a new series about a Hasidic Jewish woman from Brooklyn who flees an arranged marriage. (Perhaps they were hoping the series would inspire Jinger to question her religious upbringing.)

Others pushed the envelope with more out-there suggestions, suggesting she and Jeremy watch shows such as Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and The Americans.
