A recent Instagram post has some Counting On fans questioning whether Jinger Duggar can really afford her California lifestyle. After the reality TV star shared a photo of herself preparing a meal in her gorgeous kitchen, some people pointed out that she and her husband Jeremy Vuolo are living in a rental home. They think the couple is getting a big discount on housing costs through their church and likely wouldn’t be able to afford to buy a home where they currently live.

Jinger Duggar moved to California last year

It’s been a little less than a year since Jinger, Jeremy, and their daughter Felicity moved from Texas to California. The family relocated so Jeremy could complete his graduate work at the Master’s Seminary, a school in the Los Angeles area.

“Through much prayer and counsel, the next step for our family is to relocate to Los Angeles to attend Grace Community Church as Jeremy pursues graduate studies at The Master’s Seminary,” the couple announced in a now-deleted post on their website last year.

Jinger and Jeremy are reportedly renting a $4,000 a month home

After Jinger and Jeremy moved to LA, Radar Online revealed they were living in a $685,000 home in the San Fernando Valley. The spacious 2,000-square-foot pad was estimated to rent for $4,000 a month.

Some immediately began to question how the couple could afford their new digs. After all, Jeremy is a student and Jinger does not have a full-time job. (She does make money on sponsored Instagram posts and Cameo shoutouts.) The speculation was that they were getting some help with housing costs. The theory proved correct, with Jinger and Jeremy sharing in a Counting On episode that they found a six-month rental through their church.

Jinger and Jeremy indicated that they’d be in their new house for six months. But it’s been longer than that, and the couple seem to be staying put. When Jinger shared a photo of the home’s kitchen, some followers asked about her housing situation.

“Are they letting your stay in your house indefinitely then?” one asked.

“Didn’t they say it was temporary on the house shopping episode?” another wondered. “Guess you guys are great tenants!”

The details on Jinger and Jeremy’s housing situation aren’t clear. But when one person asked if they’d purchased a house, another commenter argued the couple wouldn’t be able to buy a home even if they wanted to.

“At this point [I’m] not sure if they can afford a house in California… housing is super expensive,” the person wrote.

The median sale price for a home in the San Fernando Valley was $720,000 in February 2020, according to the Southland Regional Association of Realtors. We don’t know exactly how much Jinger and Jeremy earn from appearing on Counting On and their other ventures. However, most would agree those prices don’t sound very affordable for a young family on a grad student’s budget.
