Coronavirus stay-at-home orders mean that millions of Americans are spending a lot more time cooking their own meals from scratch. If you’re stuck inside and looking for a simple, filling recipe to feed your family, Jessa Duggar has you covered. The Counting On star recently shared a recipe for hearty chili with her fans on YouTube and Instagram.

Jessa Duggar’s hearty chili recipe

Mom of three Jessa, 27, took to social media to share one of her family’s go-to meals: hearty chili.

“We’ve made it a least 3x in the past two weeks because for one, it’s so yummy, and two— it’s easy to whip up,” she wrote. “Give it a try. It will not let you down.”

On YouTube, she posted a video showing how to make the chili. Here’s the complete recipe, which will serve six to eight people.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 bulb of garlic (6 to 9 cloves), minced
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 3 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 15 oz can red kidney beans
  • 15 oz can pinto beans
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 28 oz can petite diced tomatoes

Jessa’s instructions say to sauté the onion and garlic, then brown the ground beef. Next, stir in the green pepper, tomato sauce, and spices, and cook for another one or two minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients (don’t drain the beans or tomatoes), bring to a boil, and then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Serve garnished with sour cream and cheese.

In an Instagram comment, Jessa assured people that the recipe wasn’t too spicy and that it was a hit with her kids.

Fans — and her sister Jinger — say they’re eager to try the recipe

Jessa’s followers — and her younger sister, Jinger — couldn’t wait to make her chili recipe.

“I’m going to try this today!” Jinger commented.

“Looks delicious! Gonna have to spruce up our chili and try this,” wrote one fan. Others said the recipe looked “amazing” and “yummy.”

Several people chimed in with their own suggestions for tweaking the recipe. Some said they served it over rice or stirred in noodles to make the meal stretch a bit farther. Another noted that that they subbed Beyond beef for regular meat in their chili recipe to make a vegetarian version. Other suggestions included using taco seasoning instead of chili seasoning, adding cubed potatoes, or stirring in corn or used black beans instead of pinto or kidney beans.

Jessa’s other recipes

The chili recipe isn’t the only one that Jessa has shared with her followers. She recently posted a recipe for crockpot chicken tikka masala that takes just five minutes to make. The reality TV has also posted recipes for pancakes, a slow cooker pot roast, and her family’s favorite sugar cookies. And while not everyone loves the recipes she and her sister’s sometimes share, it seems they’re a hit with some fans.
