‘Criminal Minds’: Fans Weigh on Who Is the ‘Best’ of the Original Team: ‘Hotch All the Way’
Over the course of the series Criminal Minds, there have been members of the team come and go. However, there was one group, simply known as the original team to fans, who include the first group of the Behavioral Analysis Unit in the very beginning. Fans recently weighed in of who is the “best” of the original team. We have all the details to know about it.

The original team lasted by themselves for just season 1 (and some of season 2), but it’s some of the best content on the show by far. It includes Unit Chief Aaron “Hotch” Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) and Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), who was a Senior Supervisory Special Agent according to his Fandom page. They are joined by Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler), SSA Elle Greenaway (Lola Glaudini), Media Liaison Jennifer Jareau or JJ (A.J. Cook), and SSA Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore). Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) is also part of the original team.
On August 27, 2021, a fan on Reddit wrote a post titled, “Best of the OG team?” They continue in the post, “I decided to exclude Reid ‘cause I couldn’t fit them all and I felt like everyone would vote for him.”
The choices are Garcia, Hotch, Gideon, Greenaway, Morgan, and JJ. 419 people voted in the poll, and the results speak for themselves. Hotch is the winner with 147 votes. Garcia is a close second with 97 votes. From there, Gideon has 62 votes, Morgan has 58 votes, and JJ has 37 votes. Greenaway comes in last with 18 votes.
Some fans left comments on the post
Some fans chose to leave comments with their thoughts as well. One fan mentioned they “loved” the character Greenaway, who was in the first two seasons. She was even shot, and she also killed an unsub as well.
“I loved Elle and seems to be the only one who does,” a fan said.
One fan thinks the poll is really for who is the “second-best” of the original team as Reid wasn’t included. He’s a much-beloved genius of a character that many fans seem to appreciate and love.
“Yeah, (not quite) everyone would vote for Reid, so this is really who’s the second-best of the OG team…..,” the fan wrote.
Some fans simply added Reid’s name to the comments, showing his popularity.
Others named Hotch in the comments, who was Unit Chief for over a decade. His calm demeanor was always on full display giving off a stoic vibe.
“Til the end of time it will always be Hotch for me,” a fan said.
Another fan simply said, “Hotch all the way.”
It’s always nice to see eye-opening polls like the one highlighted here. Fans chose Hotch as the “best” of the original team. However, fans have varying opinions about the situation. We’ll have to see what else is shared when it comes to the hit series Criminal Minds, which is quite popular among fans to this day.
