Charlie Cox played the title character in Netflix’s Daredevil for three seasons before the show was canceled, but Marvel fans are hoping they’ll see him again as Matt Murdock. Although the show won’t return to Netflix, Marvel Studios could bring Cox’s character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That’s a reality many are hoping for — and it seems Cox would prefer that over the studio recasting the hero.

Cox’s take on Matt Murdock has been widely praised by Marvel fans. That’s why it was so disappointing when Daredevil was canceled just as the Defenders team was beginning to come together.

Since the cancellation, fans have wondered whether Marvel Studios could bring its Netflix characters into the MCU. While the shows appeared to take place outside of the franchise’s main timeline, the multiverse opens up new possibilities. And rumors that Cox could return as Daredevil have circulated all year.

Those rumors have been accompanied by calls for Marvel to cast Cox in an upcoming show or film. It’s not clear if the studio intends to do so, but the actor seems game for a comeback.

Those wondering how Cox feels about reprising his Daredevil role now have an answer. Although the actor has shot down rumors of working on MCU projects, he doesn’t appear keen on having Marvel Studios recast the role.

In fact, during an episode of SiriusXM’s Pop Culture Spotlight, the actor joked about challenging anyone who tried to play Daredevil in the MCU.

“I would go down into my basement,” he said. “I would find my Daredevil mask [and then] hunt them down. I’d make them fight me for it.”

That in itself would make an entertaining series or film for Marvel, but hopefully, it won’t come to that. With fans so united about wanting Cox to play Daredevil again, the studio probably knows who to call first.

But even if Cox doesn’t don the suit again, he seems happy with the time he spent in Matt Murdock’s shoes. On a more serious note, he told SiriusXM:

“We must also be grateful because if nothing ever happens going forward, we’ve got three great seasons of television. And we haven’t ruined it. You know, you’ve got to be careful what you wish for. You [could] come back and it’s not as good or it doesn’t quite work or too much time has passed.”

“I, for one, am tremendously proud and grateful for what we have,” he added.

Despite Cox shutting down rumors that his forearms appeared in the Spider-Man: No Way Home teaser trailer, some fans believe Marvel is already in the process of bringing the actor into the MCU.

With Peter Parker (Tom Holland) desperately in need of a lawyer in the upcoming film, Matt Murdock could show up to represent him. The spell Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casts could also leave an opening for Cox’s Daredevil to enter from another universe — alongside a number of other characters.

It’s unclear if Marvel will go that route, and many of the actors involved in the film have denied such cameos. Fans will have to wait to see if they’re telling the truth. Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters on Dec. 17, 2021.
