Dexter returned to Showtime on Sunday, Nov. 7, almost a decade after its 2013 conclusion. The 10-episode revival, dubbed Dexter: New Blood, begins as if just as much time has passed, finding Dexter Morgan hiding in a small remote town. The first episode of Dexter: New Blood debuted to much praise from viewers, but at the same time, there’s one detail really bothering them.

‘Dexter: New Blood’ has finally arrived

In the Dexter: New Blood premiere, fans finally got to see what came of Dexter since he went MIA. He was able to avoid capture in the original series by faking his death and fleeing to the wilderness, where he became a lumberjack. Eight years later, Dexter remains in hiding, lodging in Upstate New York under the name Jim Lindsay.

He went the entire time without killing, but after encountering local bad boy Matt Caldwell, his murderous urges took over. Matt’s death in Dexter: New Blood will seemingly set off a chain of events in the town as police investigate his disappearance and Matt’s father, Kurt Caldwell, looks to avenge his son.

Fans noticed an error

Fans were also surprised by the return of Harrison Morgan, the son Dexter left behind in the Dexter series finale. When he saw Harrison, he was eager to talk to him. But Debra Morgan, who has taken over as his conscience, made him change his mind by reminding him about how he’s been a danger to everyone. She listed off people such as Rita Morgan, Maria LaGuerta, and herself.

Debra lifted up her shirt to reveal the gunshot wound she sustained in Dexter Season 8 before prying the bullet out. Watching the scene, viewers noticed the bullet appeared to have the casing on it, which would usually not happen.

The episode, overall, got a 9.1 rating on a 10-point scale on IMDb, with many viewers calling it a solid return to the show. But some were stuck on that bullet detail.

“You’d think after years of working as a crime scene analyst and as a sales associate at a gun and hunting store, he’d imagine the correct thing. I mean it didn’t ruin the episode but I thought it was silly,” one fan wrote on Reddit.

“I’m all for saying this is nit picky but let’s not pretend this was actually intended. It was a production mistake,” said another. “A former senior forensics analyst isn’t going to hallucinate a fired bullet with its casing still on it. That doesn’t make sense at all.”

“I don’t think it matters as much as people are making it out to be,” another countered, “but it does matter enough that it took people out of the moment for even just a second to go ‘uhh what?’ It even had me doing that and I thoroughly enjoyed the show.”
