Early in the series, Dexter: New Blood introduced billionaire oil tycoon Edward Olsen. Dexter fans had plenty of theories about this character. Some assumed he was Audrey’s biological father. Others guessed he was the masked gunman. The revival has proven both these theories to be incorrect. What’s more, Olsen hasn’t appeared in the series since episode 3. Was he really nothing more than a red herring?

Fans had plenty of theories about Edward Olsen

When Olsen first appeared in Dexter: New Blood, it seemed obvious he would be a significant character in some way. Many fans thought he could be the masked gunman targeting runaways in Iron Lake. However, this man was soon revealed to be Kurt Caldwell.

Another major fan theory stated that Olsen is Audrey’s biological father. However, this theory has also been debunked. In Dexter: New Blood Episode 6, Audrey confides in Harrison that her father had Seneca ancestry and died sometime after marrying Angela.

Will Edward Olsen return in ‘Dexter: New Blood’ Episode 10?

Other fans have continued to speculate that Olsen could be in league with Kurt, namely that Kurt sells or gives Olsen the bodies of his victims as trophies. However, Dexter: New Blood Episode 9 seemed to debunk that theory too. Harrison and Dexter found the bodies of Kurt’s victims preserved as trophies on Kurt’s own property. Olsen was nowhere in sight in episode 9.

After all this time, fans are beginning to wonder if Olsen was only a part of Dexter: New Blood to throw fans off Kurt’s scent for a while. “Where did billionaire dude go????” a fan wondered on Reddit. “I’ve been wondering that this whole time. I’m gonna be really upset if he doesn’t fit into the plot somewhere,” another Reddit user agreed.

It would definitely be a little strange to introduce this character and never mention him again. Fans still have theories about how he could fit into the final episode. “My prediction for the final episode is that Angela is going to bring Dex in for questioning now regarding Matt, and her suspicions regarding the bay harbor butcher. Likely holding him or booking him. Something to get him out of the way,” a fan wrote on Reddit.

“Then we will learn Kurt had an accomplice, my theory is the Edward Olsen. He will target Audrey who will be with Harrison. She is abducted, and Angela will be forced to release Dexter to help.”

How will ‘Dexter: New Blood’ end?

Dexter: New Blood Showrunner Clyde Phillips has teased to TV’s Top 5 that the ending of the revival will be “surprising, inevitable and satisfying.” There are no doubt a few more twists and turns in store for Dexter fans in episode 10.

With that being said, it’s not impossible that Olsen will reappear in some capacity. He may even target the people Dexter and Angela love most.

Dexter: New Blood airs on Showtime at 9 p.m. ET on Sundays.
