‘Dexter: New Blood’: Is That [Spoiler] on Dexter’s Table in Episode 5?

Dexter Morgan swore the killing of Matt Caldwell was a one-time thing, but that's clearly not the case. The trailer for 'Dexter: New Blood' Episode 5 finds him preparing to kill someone else, whose face cannot be seen. But fans think they've determined their identity anyway.

Dexter Morgan’s kill list is about to grow even longer. The trailer for Dexter: New Blood Episode 5, released on Nov. 29, shows him preparing to commit another murder. While the person’s face was not shown, the voice led many viewers to believe it’s Dexter’s son, Harrison.

Dexter Morgan has killed again in ‘Dexter: New Blood’

When the revival begins, Dexter has made quite a few changes to his life, but at the end of the day, he’s still the same person. After going a decade without killing, he slips and kills a man named Matt Caldwell, who was involved in a reckless driving accident that left five people dead.

Dexter doesn’t realize Matt is the son of Kurt Caldwell, one of the wealthiest and well-known men in Iron Lake, a small town in Upstate New York where he moved after faking his death and fleeing Miami in the original series.

A former big rig driver, Kurt now owns “several trucks” and the local truck stop. “Powerful, generous, loved by everyone — he’s a true man of the people,” his character description reads. “If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you.”

Kurt’s plans for revenge suggest a cat and mouse game could be ahead for him and Dexter, but for now, he’s still unaware of Dexter’s involvement in Matt’s death.

Who’s on the table in ‘Dexter: New Blood’ Episode 5?

Dexter kills Matt right after he reconnects with Harrison, who has started to display his own murderous tics. Dexter comes to learn in Dexter: New Blood Episode 4 that his son lied about being knifed by another student and realizes that he probably has a dark passenger too. The trailer for the next episode sees him preparing to kill again, and many viewers think it’s Harrison based on their voice.

“0:23 ‘What is happening?’ Why does that sound like Harrison?” one fan wondered under the clip.

Another agreed that it indeed “sounded like Harrison’s voice he had on the table.”

“Harrison could end up on the kill table if he turns out to be completely evil and his dark passenger cannot be harnessed to the code.. and that would definitely be what Dexter has always deep down worried about,” said another. “Hannah too cud have been murdered by Harrison..one thing is for sure.. it’s messy and unhinged and painfully over the edge..”

Others agreed it was Harrison’s voice but believed it was only added to the trailer for dramatic effect.

“The voice was Harrison. But I think it’s a clever edit…” read one comment.

“Didn’t catch that but would make sense,” said another.

“Definitely agree. I think that sound byte is completely unrelated to the clip we are seeing,” a third person wrote.

Is this a clue?

Many others looked for hints in the synopsis for the episode, which says in part that “Dexter’s method of protecting his son from drugs unleashes his Dark Passenger.” That tidbit, coupled with a scene in the trailer showing Harrison at a party, left some viewers convinced that Dexter would target someone who sold drugs to Harrison. It wouldn’t exactly fit his code, but Dexter is also a man of many contradictions.

Fans can find out for certain when the next episode releases. The show airs at 9 p.m. ET on Sundays on Showtime.
