‘Dexter’: New Detail Revealed in Season 9 Set Photos
Dexter fans have been eager to find out what happened to him ever since the TV show ended — and they’re finally about to. Showtime has an announced a limited revival series that’ll dive back into his life, revealing everything Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) has been up to over the years. While details have been kept to a minimum, set photos from Dexter Season 9 reveal an interesting tidbit about the show.
How ‘Dexter’ ended and where the revival will pick up
When Dexter ended its seven-year run in 2013, many viewers were left unsatisfied. With everything that had happened over the course of the show, fans believed he would wind up either dead or in prison. However, he was able to avoid both of those outcomes. Instead, Dexter fled Florida for Oregon and became a lumberjack.
The Dexter revival will continue his story, but not from where it left off. “We want this to not be Dexter season 9,” showrunner Clyde Phillips said on The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast, TV’s Top 5. “Ten years have passed – or however many years have passed by the time this will air – and the show will reflect that time passage. Insofar as the ending of the show: this will have no resemblance to how the original finale was – and it’s a great opportunity to write a second finale for a show, and Showtime was very gracious about that.”
It was later revealed that Dexter will be in the fictional New York town Iron Lake, where he’ll face off against mayor Kurt Caldwell (Clancy Brown). According to his character description, Caldwell is “powerful, generous, loved by everyone — he’s a true man of the people. If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you.”

As production on the revival ramps up, The Daily Hampshire Gazette reported that the Dexter crew had been decorating an area of Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts with Christmas decorations, which suggests the show might occur around the holiday season.
“We’re very much looking forward to working with the production crew,” city official Heather Butler told the newspaper. “They’ve been really good guests in the village and anticipate that we’ll be seeing a lot more of them in the next couple of weeks.”
There’s not yet an official release date for the revival, but it is expected to come out later in 2021. Hall has also said there might be more episodes than the 10 that have been announced when asked if the revival will serve as the conclusion to Dexter’s story. “I’m reluctant to say ‘definitely,’ you know? Let’s see,” he told NME. “What’s plain now is that there’s 10 new episodes.”
