Fans have a lot of burning questions about the Dexter revival, Dexter: New Blood. But perhaps the biggest one is whether there will be any appearances by those still in Miami. Since fleeing the city, Dexter Morgan has gone into hiding and changed his identity, making it less likely in our minds. But a new report says one of those characters will actually be in the Showtime series.

What is the ‘Dexter’ reboot about?

Almost a decade has passed since Dexter faked his death and fled Miami. He now resides in a small town in Upstate New York called Iron Lake and goes by the name Jim Lindsay.

“He works at the fish and game store, surrounded by weapons of minor destruction and by the trophies of what other people have killed – deer heads and stuffed trout on the wall,” showrunner Clyde Phillips told Drama Quarterly of Dexter’s life.

“We also learn he’s got a new girlfriend who is the chief of police,” he continued. “He can use that accessibility to the police station to his advantage, because even though he’s had a monastic, abstinent life, this is Dexter and Dexter is going to kill people.”

Who’s returning to ‘Dexter?’

In addition to Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan), the returning cast includes Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan and John Lithgow as The Trinity Killer. Entertainment Weekly reportedly adds in its October issue that viewers would also “see a beloved old character from Dexter’s days working for the Miami Metro Police Department.” It seems it’s a secret until the show airs, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating.

After a Reddit user shared a screenshot of the article, fans made their guesses in the comment section. Among the names that came up were Angel Batista (David Zayas), Vince Masuka (C.S. Lee), James Doakes (Erik King), Thomas Matthews (Geoff Pierson), Joey Quinn (Desmond Harrington), Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez), and even Lumen Pierce (Julia Stiles).

However, many of those actors have already ruled out their involvement, including Lee, King, Vélez, and Stiles.

New cast members include Clancy Brown, Jamie Chung, Julia Jones, Johnny Sequoyah, Alano Miller, Katy Sullivan, Oscar Wahlberg, and Jack Alcott, who’ll appear as Harrison Morgan, the son Dexter abandoned in the series finale.

The release date for the show is just a few more weeks away

Dexter: New Blood will debut at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, Nov. 7. It’s unclear if more episodes are in store beyond the upcoming 10, but Hall didn’t rule it out when he was asked.

“I’m reluctant to say ‘definitely’, you know?” he told NME when asked if the series will “definitely” end after those 10 episodes. “Let’s see. What’s plain now is that there’s 10 new episodes.”
