Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is the protagonist serial killer in the Showtime series Dexter. No good protagonist is complete without a villain to battle against. These are all of the villains Miami Metro Police Department‘s favorite blood splatter analyst faced in every season of Dexter.

SPOILER ALERT: If you’re planning to watch every episode of Dexter before the season 9 release, there are spoilers ahead.

The cast of ‘Dexter’ includes several villains

Dexter Morgan himself is a serial killer, but that doesn’t make him a villain. Instead, he lives by Harry’s Code and only kills people who have brought harm to others.

Most of Dexter’s kills were people who got away with crimes in the past. There are a few kills Dexter makes outside of the Code of Harry, but they are necessary to keep himself safe. His precise method of killing serves him well throughout eight seasons, helping him to live a normal life while wiping crime from the streets one bad guy at a time.

The Ice Truck Killer was the villain in ‘Dexter’ Season 1

Brian Moser (Christian Camargo) was Dexter’s main focus in the debut season of the series. Known for his method of draining his victims and transporting them to their final resting place in an ice truck, the Ice Truck Killer’ lack of blood caught Dexter’s attention. After admiring the Ice Truck Killer’s work, Dexter discovers he is his biological brother and kills him, despite their connection.

Season 2 villain Lila West

Dexter meets Lila (Jaime Murray) in Narcotics Anonymous while he’s faking an addiction to cover for his crimes. Lila slowly learns more about Dexter’s dark side — something she shares in common with him. But when she becomes a threat to Dexter’s girlfriend Rita (Julie Benz), Dexter has no choice but to kill her.

We have to point out how technically, Dexter was the main villain in season 2, unbeknownst to his colleagues. Thanks to Dexter’s plot, James Doakes (Erik King) was pinned as the Bay Harbor Butcher before his untimely death, which Lila caused.

Dexter battles ‘The Skinner’ George King in season 3

George King (Jesse Borrego) became known as the “Skinner” because of the torture he put his victims through. In an attempt to right the wrongs he felt Freebo (Mike Erwin) imposed upon him, George skins his victims to get information on Freebo’s whereabouts. Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) comes close to capturing him, but Dexter takes care of the Skinner in the end.

Some fans also categorize Miguel Prado (Jimmy Smits) as the villain in season 3. As the primary driver of Dexter’s narrative that season, we’re awarding him the title of Runner-Up Villain.

Arthur Mitchell, the Trinity Killer from ‘Dexter’ Season 4

Trinity (John Lithgow) might be the ultimate Dexter villain, if only because he’s responsible for one of the biggest plot twists in the series. A family man with a dark past, Arthur’s ritual involves killing multiple victims each cycle. Just when Dexter thinks he has defeated his season 4 villain, he returns home to find Rita dead at the hands of the Trinity Killer

‘Dexter’ Season 5 featuring the Barrel Girl Gang

Season 5 features a gang of villains who rape, torture, and kill women: Eugene Greer, Cole Harmon, Alex Tilden, Boyd Fowler, and Dan Mendell. Their execution style involves disposing of their victims in metal barrels filled with formaldehyde a la Breaking Bad. Dexter puts an end to their reign of terror when he rescues Lumen Pierce (Julia Stiles).

Dexter Morgan battles Travis Marshall ‘The Doomsday Killer’ in season 6

Colin Hanks plays the biblical murderer who becomes known as “The Doomsday Killer.” His motivation for killing was to bring on the end of days in what he thought was “God’s plan.” After rescuing his son Harrison from “The Lamb” tableau, Dexter finally stops Travis, but is caught by Deb.

‘Dexter’ Season 7 had multiple villains

Isaak Sirko, also known as “The Wolf,” is one of the leaders in the Koshka Brotherhood and the main antagonist in Dexter‘s seventh season. Dexter also has run-ins with Joe “The Phantom Arsonist” Jensen (Mike Foy), who kills his victims by burning them alive, Hector Estrada (Nestor Serrano), who murdered Dexter’s mother, and Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovski) in season 7. Dexter has a complicated relationship with Hannah, but she is the woman who takes Harrison (Jason Wells) to Argentina at the end of the series.

Who kills Deb in ‘Dexter’?

The season 8 villain Oliver Saxon (Snævar Darri Ingólfsson), also known as Daniel Vogel, is responsible for Debra’s death in Dexter. Known for scooping out a portion of his victim’s brains, Oliver Saxon is dubbed “The Brain Surgeon” in Dexter Season 8. He meets his end when Dexter stabs him in the jugular with a pen.

Who will be the villain in Dexter Season 9? Fans will have to wait until the fall to find out.
