Encanto is Disney’s latest family offering that has audiences of all ages discussing its entertaining adventure. Several fan theories are rounding the Internet trying to make sense of the movie into the bigger picture. However, one Disney fan theory in particular hilariously places Encanto and The Fast and the Furious into the same universe.

What are ‘Encanto’ and ‘The Fast and the Furious’ about?

Encanto follows a young Colombian girl named Mirabel (voiced by Stephanie Beatriz). A miraculous candle grants all members of her family magical powers when they come of age that matches their personalities. However, Mirabel is the only family member to never receive a gift. Now, she must fight to keep the family’s magic together when the candle’s magic begins to fade.

Meanwhile, The Fast and the Furious franchise focuses on the action in a world filled with street racing, various heists, and how a chosen family can help them achieve anything that they set their minds to. However, the series has progressively moved away from street racing and toward spy missions.

Disney fans are hilariously placing ‘Encanto’ and the ‘The Fast and the Furious’ in the same universe

A Redditor hilariously theorized that Encanto and The Fast and the Furious actually take place in the same universe. They are vastly different movies and one is animated, while the other is live-action. Nevertheless, this humorous theory places Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) from Encanto‘s Madrigal family.

The Fast and the Furious begins a bit more grounded compared to where it ends up. The car stuntwork is impressive, but there isn’t much too outside of the realm of possibility. However, The Fast and the Furious ultimately includes extreme stuntwork that would never happen in real life. Perhaps the proof of the candle’s magic at work?

Dom’s magical gift awakens as his family continues to grow. The bigger his crew becomes, the more outlandish his stunts become. The Redditor points to Encanto‘s magical gift being rooted in family. This is the exact same theme explored in The Fast and the Furious franchise.

Other Redditors responded in the comments calling it “utter nonsense and I love it.” Another Redditor hit back with, “Kind of like The Fast and the Furious franchise.”

The hope of sequels

It’s hit-and-miss when Disney will greenlight a sequel to any of their movies. Encanto ties up its loose ends rather well and doesn’t really require a sequel. However, that doesn’t mean that Disney won’t find a way to continue the story in film, television, or another animated form.

The Fast and the Furious most recently hit theaters with F9. However, a 10th installment will be split into two separate feature films. They are set to hit theaters in 2023 and 2024, respectively. However, Universal Pictures also has an untitled women-led entry and another Hobbs & Shaw movie in the works.

Encanto is available to watch now on the streaming platform Disney+.
